My chemo starts Feb 1st and will be once every 2 weeks for 3 months... If all goes well and the tumors in the liver respond to the treatment I'll have follow-up surgery after the chemo run is completed. I've had 3 consultations with the Oncologist and a consultation with the Liver Specialist that will be conducting the eventual liver surgery. I go for another surgical consultation on Friday this week as preparation for a proceedure to have a medical port implant to facilitate my chemo treatments... I was supposed to have started my chemo treatments already, but managed to catch COVID just after New Years which delayed my medical treatments and appointments while I was quarantined...

You can do this Chris, remember to eat something when you can, listen to the nurses. Prayers and good thoughts are sent your way. Take it easy.
Cheers

Having been a caretaker of a cancer patient, my advice is drink as much water as you can. Water is your base building block. The more you give your body the more it has to make new cells. You short your liquid intake; recovery will be longer and slower. I wish you the best. I hope you have a good advocate who will go on this journey with you. I saved my husband's life just after his transplant. He got so sick that he was unable to get help in time. One minute his temperature was 94F, 5 minutes later he was at 104F and climbing and almost comatose. He pulled through and has been in remission now for almost 7 years. I agree with Wizzard. Listen and if you can't hopefully your advocate will.
Good luck.

Unfortunately I don't really have anyone to advocate for me (living alone, single, and family is scattered to heck and back), but I've gotten kudos from all of my care team on my ability to advocate for myself and my ability to care for myself (I'm first-aid qualified, have a fair bit of medical knowledge, will research what I don't know or need more info on, and am really good about letting them know if I have issues or questions). I will hear them out. do my own research on appropriate resource sites (such as the official patient resource/information sites for the Cancer Treatment Centers in the area) and then ask pointed questions in regards to my care so that I can make sure that all my options are being considered fully. I've also made my own arrangements with close friends to make sure I have someone to stay with me after my treatments for a few hours (or to at least check up on me regularly) when I return home in case of sudden complications, and my neighbors have also been good about checking in to see how I'm doing.

Had surgery on Monday to implant a subcutaneous IV Port (A request I specifically made after researching the risks of PICC, Port, and regular IV transfusions/infusions) which was successful and started my chemo treatments yesterday. I'm doing well so far and don't seem to be suffering any serious side-effects from the treatment as yet... I made sure I ate before my chemo, and also that I had snacks and plenty to drink during my treatment and after I came home. Had a good friend come and stay with me for the evening just to be safe... so far so good!

Excellent news, Chris. Your team will work harder with you keeping them on their toes. The port you choose is what my husband has. His' has been in place for 7 years, now. When the nurses access your port pay attention to the procedure they perform. I believe it was the nurse at the after-care center that introduced the bug that almost killed my husband. I noticed that she did not perform the procedure to start up the IV the same way as other nurses did. She meant no harm and if he had had his immune system back up and running a little bit he would not have been impacted as much. Having such a good approach towards your recovery makes recovery very promising. You are well on your way. I wish you the best.

Thanks for the extra tips... I will keep an eye on things when they do the after-care. :)

I had my first visit from the after-care home nurse last friday to change the dressings on my Port implant incisions... all appears to be healing well...

Thanks everyone! As of today I'm officially 1/3 of the way through my Chemo treatment regiment and the Oncologist says so far it seems to be going well. I have an MRI on the 28th of March to get updated imagery of the tumors and the progression of my treatment and I'm hoping it will be good news... I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyways... :)

Keeping the toes crossed for ye Chris [crossing the fingers makes it even harder to type coherently]

8 ) Keep on smiling, it makes everyone wonder what you're up to.
