Official Announcement: DAZ terminates agreement to publish HiveWire 3D animals!

I just want to say that I'm so very, very sorry that DAZ has treated HiveWire3D so unprofessionally. To be honest, I'm usually in awe of their strategic business decisions and how well they handle the community. As much as I'm upset that this was hurtful to a team of such hardworking and decent people, I'm also kind of baffled. Even if I expected DAZ to try to get HiveWire at a disadvantage (and I did, that's basically their M.O. as a competitor), I did _not_ expect them to do it like this. This was just petty, and it looks unprofessional.

I _do_ get the DAZ newsletter still, and I saw the HW3D big cat in it before I saw the announcement here. It looked very different than their usual stuff, which always looks very game-style. So it was strikingly different. It made me pay attention _immediately_. Now, just a few newsletters later, that content is unavailable. Which is even more inexplicable if I don't go to their forums. In fact, if I were an average DAZ customer brought in by their ubiquitous YouTube ads (even my dad knows DAZ because of their ads), I'd pretty much have to go to the forums to figure out what the heck happened to that cat I saw just last week or so ago.

And then I'd find a big mess. Sorry, but I just don't think it's a smart business move to tear up a written contract over forum posts that weren't perfectly positive. This was an image problem, and they handled it in a way that made them look worse _and_ drew more attention. That's just bad business. I'm sure it's not catastrophically bad business, but it's an unforced foul. Instead of turning what they felt was a negative message into something positive, they doubled down on the negativity.

And the lesson learned should be: You just don't keep extending your hand to the monster that bites it every time you try.
Actually, I think that it's good (in a sort of long view way) this happened in the way it did, because it shows the community at large that DAZ does bite. I know a whole lot of people who argue up and down that they would never do anything monopolistic or just plain business-centric. I can't count the number of times I've been flamed for pointing out that they've either done something that made good business-sense, even if it upset the community, or that they were going to do something like that.

So I think it's better that DAZ has moved against HiveWire3D in such a clearly petty way. I actually expected them to wait several months to a year, then either try to take over HiveWire or undercut them. That would have been wiser and more lucrative, and I'm actually surprised that they didn't do that.

For me, the key lesson is to avoid reacting like they did when someone says something about me or to me that I don't like. No matter how hurt I feel by a comment or statement, it's probably best to take a step back, breathe a bit, and then respond as positively as I can make myself. Rather than disproving negative impressions, they reinforced and expanded them.

In a way, I can empathize with reacting as they did. As much as I'm very surprised at a whole group of people making a petty business decision, I can imagine personally over-reacting to someone hurting my feelings. So I'll try to remember the community's reaction next time I feel attacked in the forums. It's so hard to react positively, but it's so much more rewarding.

Well, in those forums, when that "only a small part of buyers visit the forums" logic gets used, I smile and think "Yeah, but if even a small part of THAT small part is your biggest spenders or consistent buyers, then you might want to listen to what they say." It's such a flawed logic.

It kind of depends on their business model. You need to keep in mind what the DAZ business model has been since deciding to make DS. There's no scenario where just having "backup" software solves the Poser content sales problem if Poser dies . People are in the content community mostly because it makes 3D art fun and easy. Make it hard, annoying, and even a little humbling (adults _hate_ not knowing what they're doing- that's what really makes it easy for kids to learn), and most people will just take up some other hobby.

Everything major since announcing they were going to make DS, and including a lot of stuff people haven't noticed, has been in service of either converting Poser users to DS, keeping DS users from using Poser, or gaining new DS users. I've seen enough of their ads on enough places, and heard enough about them from family, to know that they put a lot of money and effort into that last one. They've been chasing new customers from outside the community for years. Customers who are just looking for a way to make images of those cool 3D dolls they've been seeing in ads everywhere.

Oh, and on "dazzled," depends on what you're dazzled by, doesn't it? It made sense to me, as in getting dazzled by the beating being laid down on him. Definition of dazzle: "amaze or overwhelm (someone) with a particular impressive quality." You say someone's going to get dazzled, and I figure they're going to be all disoriented and amazed by the impressive offense and blows to their head.

I'm happy to announce the Hivewire3D House Cat, (each featuring one of the two LAMH presets,) has now grabbed 5 of the top 40 spots on the scrolling banner on page one of the Galleries. (Thank you, to any and all who "liked" mine.) We've also taken 9 out of 40 spots in the Most Popular in the last 24 hours. :giggle: Yay, us!

It's not easy getting to the "leader-board" (scrolling banner.) But once an image is there, it gets a lot of exposure, which usually leads to more "likes." CWRW's "Daddy's Boots" was uploaded yesterday, made the leader-board in a matter of hours, and is now at 34 likes. She leap-frogged over her own "Springtime Days," which recently jumped back ahead with 35 likes.

It's kind of like watching a carnival horse race game, like this one:

You go, Chris.

I miss the days of Chris at DAz.

Is there a forum here to post problems with the forum that I may get suggestions on how to fix it? I don't want to clog this thread up trying to figure out why I'm not getting email notifications, but I am known for being half-blind at times (and not 'blind' in the Aussie vernacular...) so I may be missing something.

Do you happen to have the Email option checked in your profile setting? To check go to your Name at the upper right of the screen and click, then go down to preferences and make sure that the appropriate box or boxes are checked depending on how you like your settings.

If you have that checked , and it still is not sending them to you post a thread here

all words can have different meanings across the pond

take for example 'That's nice' when used in reply to something that is said like 'Daz dumps HW3D'.

Irish and Australians will know the other meaning of this phrase :devil"
:rofl::rofl: oh yeah!

Can anyone say how many new forum members here since this thread started? I don't think it's possible to view the members list by date of joining.

John, as long as you're here, mind sending me a link to where you're selling your Poser stuff these days?
Sorry about the late reply. :)
I sell my products at as many places as possible to get the largest number of customers. ;)
My products can be found here at Hivewire, at my own site (Vanishing Point), Content Paradise, Renderosity, CGTrader, TurboSquid, ShareCG (yes, they sell products now), Cornucopia (Vue models), Reallusion marketplace (iClone models), and the Unity Asset Store (Unity models).

So then the question becomes. What did the young kid mean?!?

(I can be sooo dense)

Not sure if it's a case of different meanings across countries, but different generations. Kids have their own language nowadays. It's like the word "sick" meaning good. If I were to say something is sick, I would mean that it's so bad that it's nauseating. Kids will think it's brilliant??? (Then again, us old natives also have cockney rhyming slang, so if I were to say 'let's take a butchers at your barnet,' the kids would probably pull a face.)

I'd say if someone was dazzled, then they are blinded by whatever it is.

Re typing speeds, I took Pitmans advanced and failed by one mark :( that was back in 198-something and my speeds have increased since then. I can almost keep up with the spoken word, so long as they are not talking ten to a dozen. Not sure how fast that is, but I would say that I make 100 mistakes a minute rather than a 100 words a minute. (Here Here for Grammarly. Shows all my errors up in big fat underlines.) :)

I wondered when something like this would happen.
There was another site long ago which I was a member of and had a product active there.
They were allowed to join DAZ as an affiliate site and promised that their vendors could move there too.
It wasn't long before the agreement was dropped and so were the vendors who went along.
I was one who was dropped as they "were not fond of the product", it was Birkitta for V3 and she had second skin clothing as well.
This was before V4 was released to the public.

I am aware that I am not as great in texturing as some others and freely admit it but I strive to be.
My horse textures are not as wonderful as CWRW's textures but she is an inspiration to me so I try to improve.

That is why I love it here, people are nice and they help if you need it, they don't just tell you to stop trying.

My artwork helps when bad things happen in my family so I can get through the emotional storms without drowning under the waves.
And the people here help too by being there for me and for each other.

The Hivewire line of animals are way Superior to the DAZ animals and I think the human models are better here as well.
The only other model I've see or used that I felt was better than V4 was the Antonia Polygon model and I still like to use her.

I know the team must be disappointed but really it is better now than later when you least expect it.
Chin up, team, I'm still rooting for you all. :)

Alisa, you know I will support Hivewire as long as I'm able. :)

I don't mean to say I don't like any DAZ product, I do like some of them but I have favorite models that are not DAZ.

As a matter of fact I was checking my CP store where my DAZ products are and was surprised to find that my 3 biggest sellers are Miki 3, Miki4 and KojiG2.

I have no Hivewire products there as they are all here,:D

Actually Bonnie, I've been watching since the original thread about the HW Big Cat and Cub moving to DAZ3D, and we're now up to 52 new members (and counting). Of course, that thread is about 3 weeks older, so not sure exactly how many of the 52 have joined us here since Monday, but I believe it's been quite a few. ;)
