OOhhh. You get Season 3 of the Originals. That is so unfair we can't get that on iTunes or Netflix and Vampire Diaries 7 looks like it's finally getting there too! I bought VD7 on iTunes but I can't get TO3 on their for some reason that is always slower to be released.

Oh and The Fall Season 3...why is Australia always the last to get things!

Once upon a time that may have been reasonable with long shipping times. But this stuff can travel the world in much quicker ways. E.g the internet...there is no excuse for things to take so long or be so much dearer in Australia which they frequently are.

Just curious. A lot movies are filmed in Australia. Do you have any network shows of your own? Do you get Game of Thrones?

Yes, we have a lot of home grown shows on free to air tv as well as Game of Thrones on pay tv and then there is Netflix, Stan, Presto and other online suppliers, but the problem is with who can show what with licensing which pretty much excludes a lot.

Free to air is free and has about 16 channels then there is
Foxtel pay TV starting at about $40 month with adverts then goes up as you add sport, movies ect..
Netflix is about $12 month with limited access to content as is
Stan about $10 month
Presto about the same which need high speed broadband.

so to get everything costs an absolute fortune.
We get the US shows fasttracked here so we see them usually within 24 hours of them being shown in US. EG The Last Ship is on Monday nights here when it was on, the season finished 2 weeks ago.

Luke Cage will be on the 30th I think it is, then next month the Flash returns as well as the Blacklist... but to see them fast tracked we need to have free to air ( Blacklist ) and pay for Foxtel ( The Flash ), Netflix ( Luke Cage ) and Stan ( Last Ship ).

It gets confusing sometimes trying to remember what's on when and where it's on lol

Finished the Season 5 of Longmire and Season 5 of Call the Midwife. This season of Call the Midwife was heartbreaking as babies were born to mothers who had taken Ditaval (thalidomide) because of morning sickness or anxiety/sleeplessness.

and now, I'm rewatching Rosemary and Thyme.

I finished watching Grimm- the "final" season ended on a cliffhanger!! I was really angry and upset so I had to make up the ending in my head... but NBC did it again, idiots!

Was that the Season 5 The Beginning of the End, Part II episode?

Season 6 will be the final season of Grimm, but it doesn't premiere until January 6, 2017.

I was neverr a big Luke Cage fan. To this day, I don't think I've ever read ne of his comics all the way thru. Of course, talk about racist stereotypes, those few black superhereoes in the 70s that they did have were all trying to talk "jive". Drove me crazy. It did inspire me to create my own female black superhero though, named "Spirt". She wasn't dead, but the ghost of her dead brother visited her and gave her "ghost" powers of intangibility, flight, invisibility, and telekinesis. Obviously, I'd probably have to change her origin a bit, and maybe up her powers, but there are so few black female superheroes. In fact, I can only think of two, and one is retired.

I bought the first issues of Luke Cage. It's a classic "My mom threw out when we moved" type of thing. I don't know how much that first issue would be worth. What really ticked me off is that I had the very first issue of Conan The Barbarian. I thought this might be something special so I paid the extra two cents to have it placed in a protective bag. Fast Forward about forty years. I nurtured the magazine, making sure it wasn't in the stack of hundreds that had survived the move. Finally putting away when I was assured it would be in the rafters of our new house. I check the price of a Conan The Barbarian First print in mint condition. Selling price about $1500! I pull the box from the rafters. Magically, memory kicks in and I know where it is. In the center of fifty comic books. Protected on either side.

I see it.

Apparently a mouse had chewed it's way into the box. Went past my 1st issue of Prez (Selling price after that same forty years? About 5 bucks) leaving it untouched and the mouse CHEWED THE EDGES OFF. It was pretty much the only one it went for.

Luke Cage was no where to be found so I assume it was indeed thrown out in the move. The second time this was done to me. What do Mom's have against comic books? I've learned my experience isn't even unique! Mom's kick in here!

EClark, you're right about the jive talk. I suppose that made it relevant to a lot of blacks back then. Try to remember, at the same Luke Cage was released the song, "I'm black and I'm proud" was still being played. I was much more offended about the first Superman movie in which the only black man sighted appeared to be a cape loving pimp! Not all blacks spoke like JJ from Good Times.

I think you're right about the amount of Black Super Heroines in comics. I can only think of one and she decided NOT to join the Xmen. I can't think of any from DC.

What did you think of Laurence Fishburne as Perry White when the new Man of Steel movies came out?

What really get's me about some of the older comic characters is that so many of the Black Heroes or Villains had Black in their name too. Black Panther, Black Falcon, Black Goliath, Black Eagle, Black Lightning, Black Racer, Black Spider, Black Vulcan, Black Eagle, Black Sampson, Black Talon, the Black Musketeers...

What was with that?

Probably that Black has a feeling of Dark Power about it. Normally associated with Evil which is totally wrong. I do thank Stan Lee for the Black Panther. The people may live in huts but they know how to make Super Hero...with no powers.

Strangely enough, The Black Widow in the Avengers movie is played by Scarlett Johannsen!

I'll give DC credit for MOSTLY avoiding that, Technically, Black Lightning is tthe only one I can think of and strangely, I found it appropriate on him and Black Panther (Not a DC character, I know). DC's other black hereoes all seem to have one name though. Cyborg, Steel, Vixen, Bumblebee,Tyroc all have one word names. John Stewart and Mal Duncan (from Teen Titans) had code names, but they had belonged to other heroes first. (Green Lantern, The Guardian).

Think I'll see if I can use Dawn to re-invent my Spirit character.;)

I'm not a big fan of characters changing sex, race or sexual orientation. Next thing they'll do is make J. Jonah Jameson a trans- Black woman.:sneaky:

Zaarin, I'm completely in your camp. I've read the LoTR every year since 1974...it's part of my New Year ritual. I LOVE the books with a passion and I REFUSE to watch any of the movies. Arwin turned into a warrior princess?! Glorfindel dropped?! Gimli made into a clown?! No chance. I'd rather read the books again. PJ is a Kiwi like me and I'm proud of him for his success but...I wish he hadn't killed my favourite books of all time.

Haven't seen the films yet, just checked how much they changed book vs movie and was already pissed off.

I know one can hardly adapt a book 1 to 1 into a movie, but to change so much.....yes, minor stuff not really important to the story can be dropped, but one need to stick with the important bits and pieces. Considering how long they filmed; they should have planned to make the extended correct version for later movie/DVD release and cut for the first theatrical release

I switched to Kindle books when I started having problems reading books. With the Kindle, I can enlarge the font if necessary ... which means no more tired eyes 15-20 minutes into reading. And ... I can easily carry dozens (many, many dozens) of books around with me, so I always have a backlog of books ready to start when I finish one. It's also ever so much cheaper since there are so many free books on Amazon that interest me. $20+ a week gets rather expensive when you're addicted to hard backs. I also ran out of bookcase space 10-15 years ago. It's going to be forever before that happens with the Kindle.

I ran out of book space as well and therefore gave in to an e-reader, but an open format reader. Kindle allows only it's own format and not the more quasi standard epub, but my Prey/Lucas Davenport Series is epub as well as some other series like Jack Reacher (which I just started from the beginning)
