"Spin to Win" Render Challenge! - CLOSED!

I read your rules and it says that the morphs used must be Starter Morphs for Dawn. Sora morphs aren't starter morphs.

"Morphs are defined as Starter Morphs, Head and Body Shapes, Creature Heads, Head Morph Resource Kits, Mini-Morphs, Body-Types, teeth morphs, etc. and can be further defined as morphs that are not sold with texture maps as Characters."

It all seemed rather simple to me. One of the biggest criticisms STILL is that the HiveWire figures don't have as many morphs as the Gen 4 figures have. As if to say ... since Dawn/Dusk/Luna don't have a bazillion morphs, you can't really anything with them.
I did not mean to imply that, but I do like a large selection of morphs. More morphs is more versatility to me. Sometimes I have a character/creature in mind that I know I have morphs for M4 or even M3 to acomplish that just do not exist for Dusk at this time. If I knew more about making morphs I would try to remedy this myself (same for clothing).

I realize you didn't imply that KageRyu. I also like a large selection of morphs, but for my own personal characters.

I remember that Alyson 2 came with a huge amount of morphs. Unfortunately, they were all scientifically named so I don't know what half of them were. Still, people complained that there were too many morphs and the next figure that came out, Roxie, hardly had any morphs at all.

I like it. And looking over your morph list, I would say that the shape of the dress, at least on a real person, would actually be defined by the morphs used.

No time for another character but I decided to have a go at a male to suit my Hussar pack I am working on. Actually this guy is probably more a Hun than a Monolian, as noted in the image files though. The armour is inspired by Mongolian warrior outfits, but as I ran out of time I had to do a slap dash job on the texturing. I do think this will turn into a proper product at some time but right now it's just a bit hit and run.
Actually I rather dislike Dusk and I hardly use him to render... so this was an interesting challenge. Turns out with the morph packs I could more or less dial out all the elements I don't like in Dusk and I have to say... I rather like this guy. He uses Dusk's texture but I tweaked it slightly to get an older look to the skin.
This is i

as a comparison to Dusk

I was aiming for an older man, fit but already showing some of the effects of time. It shows best on the back with the buttocks. The aging morph does a very nice job there. I might have done more on the body and will, if I decide to create a proper character morph from this.

Also featuring ivy generated with the free ivy maker by Thomas Luft. Wren by Ken Gilliland, squirrel by Alessandro_AM and forest by Andrey Pestryakov. The texture uses the Bark Booster by DimensionTheory, apart from the eyes- which are actually a car paint shader.

I was aiming for something that had recognisable features but was also alien to a human viewer and yet part of her surroundings, so I did not just play around with the height but also the proportions of the figure to give a treelike feeling. In quite a few cases I switched off limits.

I have posted them before, but here are some renders of the character without a background:

This has been a fun exercise! This year, I have been unemployed due to a back injury, so I have been looking at two legs of a business to try to build. The first is learning to make characters from various merchant resources that I could start to sell, and the second would be learning modeling itself.
I have spent time this year getting resources and tutorial packs so that I can start.

This challenge gave me an opportunity with what limited resources I had for Dusk to throw my hat in the ring to hopefully win some more as well as see if I could truly make something that definitely looked different than the base model....in a good way.

There were definitely much more complex characters made than mine, so it has challenged me even more, and I get to see others process in making their characters.

I used to work as a machinist so, once I get my mind going in the right direction I think I could get back to a mindset of making thing!

Thank you for this!

YAY!!! I'm so glad you got her finished, even if you don't feel she really is finished, but I'm loving what I'm seeing. ;)

That I believe is the true meaning of a render challenge such as this one. I've only once tried to create my own character, and seeing what everyone's accomplished in this thread, has me thinking it's time to try again. :)

@HaiGan that is beautiful. I have wished for more Entlike/Treelike characters for Dusk/Dawn - Would be an excellent idea for a product.

OK Wildlyfe. I had to get offline earlier than usual, as I'm on the East Coast so 2 hours later than Mountain time. I prefer to wait to close the render challenge, but wasn't able to last night.

I haven't yet uploaded all entries for the judges to view, so I will be including your entry as well. Thanks for posting it.

I've got an idea for your next render challenge, Miss B. How about letting people create the most realistic render challenge? Personally, I would structure the rules so that they can only use a Hivewire figure, but the figure could be either animal or human. It just has to make the judges think it looks the most realistic render of all the entries.

Miss B

Drawing Life 1 Pixel at a Time

Well, I'll certainly bring that suggestion to the other CVs, and see what they think. A lot of folks don't do realistic renders, so it might be a good way to see if folks can adapt a realistic look for their characters.

Our next render challenge is probably going to be a Spin To Win render challenge for the HiveWire Animals, so it probably won't be until the new year, but they might like the idea. Thanks for the suggestion Earl. :)

Hmmmm, good point HaiGan, thanks for the heads-up, as I hadn't thought about that. We really haven't started discussing it, so I'll definitely keep that in mind for what the requirements would be as far as the HW animals are concerned.
