I don't know enough about poser to know how to use HDRi in it but I do with Iray.
Any outdoor ones of course will only be suitable for outdoor scenes (or if your scene is an enclosed room with windows). And of course any indoor ones for indoor use (there are even ones set up like photography studios).
Ones that are simple colours (not a photo) are perfect for indoor lights in most cases (unless it mimics an outdoor scene such as a gradient from top to bottom with blue at top and green at bottom and a "sun"). Also I've found not all HDRis are created equal. Bigger is better but it also comes down to the photographer and how many EV brackets the image was shot with.
This is an example of non-photo type created as an enclosed enviro with bright lights perfect for say a car showroom etc.
