But, if you're correcting something, don't you have to be in the Preview tab to make the correction in the Render settings, if that's the type of "flaw" you're referring to, or can you get the Render Settings dialog to open up while you're in the Render tab?

So, I've done a render. The render is complete. I'm looking at it in the Render tab. I see a flaw. I click on the Area Render tool, click and drag over the area I want to re-render (after changing whatever I've needed to change elsewhere), then let the Area Render tool do its magic. :)

It's also a quick way to check a test render if, say, all you've done is adjust a character's expression...without having to re-render the whole scene.

So if they've taken that ability away... that is a monumentally stupid choice, IMO.

But maybe I'm reading their description all wrong...

Anyway...I'm going to hold off updating until that's cleared up.

I will also render from the render tab. Frequently, like James, it's spot renders. But sometimes it's a full render.

Probably about half the time I start the render from the preview tab, the other half of the time, from the render tab.

Oh I use the Area Render tool all the time, just not while I'm in the Render tab. I just select the area I want to re-render in the Preview tab of the Pose or Material rooms. I've just never thought to go back to the Render tab before selecting the area I want to re-render after making adjustments.

This was something I fell across by accident and I have used this a number of times to correct the odd flaw. On rare occasions there is a slight transparent box or line around the area render so I just load the two renders into PSP and layer the two with the corrected layer on top. Certainly a quicker way than doing another render from scratch.

Done that too Hornet.

With my previous computers, I had to render bits at a time when the computer couldn't handle scenes with a lot of plants. In that case, it was necessary to spot render from the render tab. By starting from the top left corner (my left), and doing each segment to the right and then down, I could get a render without the transparent box.

By spot rendering from the render tab, I could see where each render stopped.

Just got a reply on the official Poser forum regarding the Area Render tool.

It was an error in the fix list.
Area Render works normally in the Render tab.

So things should be alright in that respect.

I'm still going to wait a bit before I update, though. I'm really glad they're still updating regularly and frequently, but I have to admit I feel a little bit like a guinea pig each time.

Yes, I just read that post a few moments ago.

As far as feeling like a guinea pig, my only concern is it's a "new" team, so I feel like we're beta testing whether they know what they're doing.

So, what about the ping feature. That's what interests me. Do I get automatic transparency now by plugging into the diffuse? Or is it something different?

If you're referring to the PNG formats now being usable, it states the "alpha" is discarded. I could be wrong, but I think it just means that you can use a PNG format image in your texture setup. I don't think it has anything to do with adding transparency.

OK Poser users, I just read a formal post from a member of the Smith Micro staff on the SM Poser Forum about a new update, and here's what was posted:

"Without further delay I'm happy to announce a forthcoming free upgrade (maintenance release) of Poser 11.1

Poser 11.1.1 Revision 35500

We're ready to launch Poser 11.1.1 ! Except, it's the Holidays and people are on vacation. To increase the likelihood of a smooth release, we've decided to delay until everyone else is back from vacation.

This version is slated to be released on January 3rd, 2019. It is the culmination of the efforts of multiple teams and developers over a course of 9 months in 2018.

In 11.1.1 we have a number of stability fixes (about three dozen) and a few enhancements to existing features. This should improve the situation for people who are experiencing difficulties. We also want you to realize that we do listen, and we are trying our best to support you, our users!

One major change is the removal of Flash support.
We've also fixed a number of UI glitches and Render Settings.

For the user who complained about the units issue with 3D Paths: this enhancement will not be a part of 11.1.1, however it has already been addressed in an upcoming version.
"

We've waited a long time for this, but sounds like it's going to be worth the wait! ;)

Are you a member over at the SM Poser Forum, because one of the SM guys posted the release notes for the update? Let me see if I can find it for you.

OK, I found it, and decided to copy/paste it here in case anyone else is interested. This was posted by a guy from SM who's got a "devlog" thread where he's been trying to keep us up-to-date, and answering some of our questions.

Miss B - thanks so much for posting this. I def. prefer having information like this before I decide whether or not to download an upgrade. I swear I have tried to "join" the SM forums at some point, but had problems when doing so and haven't tried again, so I really appreciate your post.
