• Welcome to the Community Forums at HiveWire 3D! Please note that the user name you choose for our forum will be displayed to the public. Our store was closed as January 4, 2021. You can find HiveWire 3D and Lisa's Botanicals products, as well as many of our Contributing Artists, at Renderosity. This thread lists where many are now selling their products. Renderosity is generously putting products which were purchased at HiveWire 3D and are now sold at their store into customer accounts by gifting them. This is not an overnight process so please be patient, if you have already emailed them about this. If you have NOT emailed them, please see the 2nd post in this thread for instructions on what you need to do

I am SO glad you're back!

Man, I just can't get a break!

I found a texture that is perfect, only to discover my UV mapping isn't. You can't see it with the procedural, but once I put a texture map in the mix, eeek!!!!

Going to remap AGAIN once I get a little time to myself.

I did get to download several of those filters directly into FF, but didn't have much time to play with the program.

Real life gets in my way far too much these days.

Then we are agreed. If I didn't have duty, I would be out getting drunk.

That is what we are saying, right?

I looked at some more tutorials on Filter Forge. It's kind of neat. I will be playing with it tomorrow after work. I want to see if it's possible to recreate that felted wool with the same pattern as the boots. I will also be remapping the upper section. I think I should break it up into a couple more material zones so that the mapping is easier to manipulate.

The I will go out and get drunk on Friday night....:geek:

Glad to see you're having fun with FF Rokket. :)
I wasn't too impressed when I first installed it, but after watching a couple tutorials and realizing there was more than meets the eye, I am fairly certain I can create something useful with it. I don't know if I'll keep it beyond the demo period. I am not a fan of the license subscription deal. It's the same deal with Maya or 3DS Max. Let me buy it outright and be done with it. I know someone who has a cracked version. I am not a fan of that, but I can understand why he did it. It seems like the company wants to make money off a product that has a relatively small market. When you have a program like Blender out there for free, and it can compete with your professional level software that costs thousands...

Well, you can do that, but FF does have sales, so there's never a reason to pay the full price, and I started with the Standard version first, and then upgraded to Pro a couple of versions later. Now I can get an upgrade, if I wait to the last minute, for a reasonable price. Once you're a registered user, they send you an email with a much lower price than what a new user pays. Just something to think about for the future, if it turns out you like it.

Oh, and I know what you mean about Blender and the big names . . . I got that 3-year license for Maya, but I would NEVER spend that kind of money unless I worked for some big name production house. Then again, the big name production house would probably supply their artists with it.

If you can create the type of products Stonemason does, and make the money he does selling his wonderful products, then it pays for itself. For the things I create, Blenders just fine, thank you very much. ;)

I agree with you there. I have never wanted to be a vendor, though I am seriously thinking about doing it here just for awhile. But I made a deal with the wife that I won't spend money on this hobby beyond Poser. Once she figured out how much I could potentially spend on this, she told me no more. The kids and their needs come first. I am talking to her now about making money doing it. I told her I would do this to test the waters. Any profit I make will be mine to spend as I please. Could pay for some really nice software if I garner any interest in my stuff.

I use Filter Forge a LOT and ended up going for the lifetime upgrade a couple years later. That has more than paid for itself. Especially, as retirement creeps closer and closer. Anything I can spend now instead of later will make my life easier once my income is cut in half.

I tend to modify the filters rather than using them "straight out of the box."

I didn't realize Filter Forge had added a subscription license. I only object to companies going the subscription route as long as they also offer a reasonable non subscription license. I also wouldn't mind a subscription if once you reached the cost of a regular license, you no longer had to pay the monthly subscription until you wanted to upgrade to a newer version.

I am not sure how it works, but I know I am not willing to pay and pay and pay....

I messed with creating a filter from scratch last night. I couldn't get it to do what I wanted, but I think I only scratched the surface, so I won't dismiss it yet. Besides, I still have 27 days left on the trial.

I didn't know they'd added a subscription line either. my husband is another of the many who refuses to go the subscription path.

It makes sense for them to do that based on the fact that it's a relatively small niche they are filling. It's not like a video game that millions are playing. I am certain the 3D community is fairly small.

But it's a pain in the butt for the end user. If I'm not making money from it, I can't justify it in my mind to keep paying for it time and time again. Heck, even if I was making money from it, I still would have to think hard about renewing the subscription.
