• Welcome to the Community Forums at HiveWire 3D! Please note that the user name you choose for our forum will be displayed to the public. Our store was closed as January 4, 2021. You can find HiveWire 3D and Lisa's Botanicals products, as well as many of our Contributing Artists, at Renderosity. This thread lists where many are now selling their products. Renderosity is generously putting products which were purchased at HiveWire 3D and are now sold at their store into customer accounts by gifting them. This is not an overnight process so please be patient, if you have already emailed them about this. If you have NOT emailed them, please see the 2nd post in this thread for instructions on what you need to do

I am SO glad you're back!

I am happy with the new UV mapping, but that texture I used on the original wasn't cutting it. At least not up close. This is where I am with the new boot. Not good...

I'll install Filter Forge later and see what happens. I will have to get offline in about an hour. I have a few things to take care of. Meanwhile, back at RDNA, I did get someone who is going to attempt a procedural shader using BB's Matmatic loom. I hope he succeeds. I know you will be redoing it in DS anyhow, but it will be good in Poser. Since it's mapped, it shouldn't be hard to do in DS.

Hope you enjoyed your wifi and coffee at the food court Rokket...with the boot it reminds me a bit of Ugg boots just shorter...would a suede texture work?

This is the boot I am trying to create. I am not 100% sure what that material is. That is why it's such a pain in the backside.

I am getting closer. The heel isn't textured yet, which is why it looks funny. This texture isn't quite right, but it's better. I will have it soon enough, I think.

At a guess I would say it's a woven wool that's then been felted. You can see the weave still but it's definitely had the felting process applied to as well. The fabric looks really cool...

Edited to add...I reduce the displacement and look for a bump that simulates a woven fabric and then try to make it look fuzzy...does that make sense. The sole is looking really good.

I just got back from hanging out with a few friends. I have to get up early tomorrow (0500... what does the 0 stand for? o my god, it's early!). I'll be back to working on this after that. I have to install Filter forge and see what it's about.

That looks like a good start Rokket.
My husband uses FF in his art so much that we purchased the lifetime upgrade for the standalone version when it was on sale several years ago.

I am on a quick break. We are busy!

I haven't installed FF yet, so I am not sure what I am going to think about it. Is there a learning curve, or is it intuitive? I tend to not like complicated software. There have been quite a few demos that went away within a couple days because they are too hard to understand how to use them.

Check back at the site, because there are several tutorials. Also, if you click on the Filters tab on their site there are over 11,000 filters there for download. If you're looking for something, search and see what they have. That'll make things a little easier.

Once you look at the tutorials, that will give you ideas on how to edit filters you find on their site to best suit what you need. There will be trial and error, but unless the filter you download is very detailed, you shouldn't have too much trouble editing it. There's a very large selection of all kinds of items, not just cloth.

Oh and a lot of the filters come with a number of variants, so you if you see something you like, but it's not the right color(s), just check out the variants because there might be something close to what you want.

I have to wait until I can connect my laptop to WIFI again, but I was playing with the factory defaults a bit. It doesn't seem hard to work with, but I will need access to those 11,000 filters to be sure if there is anything I can use it for. Right now, there doesn't seem to be much there. I will form a better opinion of it once I can look at the tutorials and download some usable stuff.

I should have a chance tonight to do something with it. I have to take my laptop ashore so I can get on Skype with the family, so I'll get on the site then.
