Runtime DNA merges with DAZ 3D

I doubt that. There was talk before all this hit that there was development to get it working in DAZ Studio natively. Who knows now what's going to happen. I for one would LOVE to have that work natively in DS, it's THE BEST of it's class bar none esp with all the add on modules and options....
Actually, Richard, I had heard that Colm (I think) was working on a way to get it to work in Studio, and truthfully, I have no problem with that. That said, DAZ does not inspire trust in me that they won't kill off the Poser version just as soon as they have the Studio version working.

And I've tried avocado repeatedly, and just can't stand it. I despise it. Don't like the flavor, don't like the texture. ;) Just not my thing is all. My Bear loves them. I just don't. I don't like guacamole either, for the same reason. LOL
I'm not into avocados or guacamole either. The only green veggies I like, other than lettuce, is broccoli, and on occasion asparagus, though that has to be with Hollandaise sauce.

Oh, I love my veggies and fruits just as much as I do my meats. I just hate avocado, so anything that happens to be avocado based is likely NOT going to go over well for my taste buds. ;)

I cook mostly with Avocado oil, no taste to it but has a very high burn rate so you can actually fry with it.

Well, I'm glad folks have seen Regina's Facebook post, and I have to totally agree. Regina should've written the merger announcement, or at least had a hand in it. She definitely has a way with words.

One thing you folks may, or may not, know . . . I was just over at RDNA reading the merger FAQ as it had been updated, and from what Eric/Traveler posted, Syyd will be (or may already be) a part of the DAZ marketing group, and Eric and Colm will be DAZ PAs, and they've already got a project "in the works".

Let's hope this all works out for them, and for all Poser users.

When I think of the monumental collection of Traveler props that I've got in my runtimes from years of cruising the Deep Freeze collection, as well as the main store, I can only look forward to any new project with great interest. He has done some great work. And I *love* props.

DAZ has confirmed that any purchased products not being migrated to DAZ will remain downloadable from RDNA till the end of 2016. Still waiting on the list of products not being migrated.

Also they've confirmed that they will be accepting new V4/M4 products that may be submitted. Beyond just moving existing stuff from RDNA.

Looks like products for other figures are still up in the air, but that'll likely take time to sort out and hammer out decisions on.

That is good news, as I use my generation 4 figures often. Maybe not as often as my new HW3D characters of late, but I still like them.

Hopefully not as many quotes this time...
...and another broken heart shuffles in.:notworthy:

I see a lot of old friends, though [smiles]; and who knows which others may become new friends?

Introducing myself, I mostly use Poser, and sometimes Vue. I enjoy making Poser material room node spaghetti. I model quite a bit, mostly in Silo but occasionally break out modo. Most of my stuff is for TinkerBell, and also a lot of Lord of the Rings items and Narnia stuff. Other times, it's sci-fi props. Oh, and environment playsets (terrains with skydomes).

Assuming there is a freebies section, I'll be needing to know where that is.
Welcome Seachnasaigh! I love all the stuff you mentioned...so I'll look forward to seeing what you make.

Heya :)

Al's fine - I just figure it's usually too short or already taken, and PangurBan isn't :)

Cheers

Great! Al it is then much easier to type...gotta watch that carpal tunnel ; )

Saw it over at RDNA...must admit it was similar to what I had been thinking. Sometimes it's hard to know what is going on in a persons head without them explaining it.

Autofit is much simplier, so if it's the case, impact on DAZ store shoud be bigger, much more bigger. Plus WW was here for ages, CrossDresser... Don't think we should blame fitting room.
I'm not sure that I would blame the fitting room but you're right autofit is so much simpler and easy for people new to the 3d world to use. It's one of the things I love about DS...when I mess around in Poser to do things for Diva I've struggled to create clothing for her...it's one of the reasons I'm going to try to provide some clothing with her. Whereas in DS I never had a problem with most items.

You could be right I am just aware that some users did not move to Genesis, even the early ones, and instead used the fitting room to reuse the content they had already purchased, but then the fitting room would only have been one factor in that decision. It was just a thought that went through my mind, most go through so quick I don't notice but this stuck around for some reason.
I think this happened to a certain extent with the first genesis...many people had lots of content and the skill to be able to use autofit easily. The original Genesis had all the clones for Gen 4 and Gen 3 and alternative uv's for Gen4 it was so easy to use older content.
It is my belief that Daz realised that they had made a marketing mistake with Genesis and that is why they moved back to split figures and provided those figures originally with only the clone and uv's for Genesis. I know that the official version is it was too hard to create for an androgynous figure but if I could do it and all the vendors who created beautiful outfits(female as well as male could) *shrugs
Not trying to bash Daz with this...they are after all a business. For me at the time it happened it was a bit of shock as I had felt like they were more than that. I think that many people felt like that about Daz so when they acted like a business not family they were shocked...

Well, I'm not young by any means (I'm an old fart) but some of these folks have a huge money investment in that pipeline and can't afford to start buying merchant resources all over again for new figures.

I do enjoy learning new things, though, so I took to weight mapping very early in the process when it was pretty painful to learn. The new and improved tools in Poser have really helped to make it easier and faster.
I was surprised in the last 6 months that I had two vendors ask if they could use my morphs for Genesis3 in commercial products. I didn't realise until then how many vendors rely on spinning dials and merchant resources. A bit naive I know but I thought more vendors created their own morphs. So this may well be a major issue for some.

It's possible that many who relied on pre-made clothing moved to Studio where the content is, whereas many who made or modified their own stuck with Poser. If Poser users are more inclined to create their own content (mere speculation on my part) then it would create a "vicious" cycle that can only lead vendors elsewhere. Vendor support doesn't tell the whole story of how many are using Poser and without access to sales figures and demographics the end users can only speculate.
I don't think it was only people swapping...I think Daz did a major drive to bring in new people when they did Genesis. Around that time there was certainly an influx of newbies needing help and the Community Volunteers had a major focus on trying to help newbies and to ensure they found DS easy to use. That's not totally speculation as when the CV's first started I was part of the group.

What I'd REALLY like to know is what will happen to the Terra Dome? Since it was primarily a Poser -only product. My guess is that it will DAZ's priority to get it working in Studio and then all Poser development on it will cease.
There were people working on it prior to the announcement as I remember reading a thread on it. I hope that they will continue to support both programs. Some people do still do so over at Daz but it is happening less.

Yes, Pendraia. I'm the one who created the Stryke Angel outfit for Star. I really enjoyed my experience documented in that thread. Even when I was ready to pull my hair out, it was fun. :)
I thought that was you...you did a fantastic job. I hadn't gotten around to picking it up yet so I hope that it's still available somewhere. The Australian dollar has been so bad in the last year or so that I've had to be more careful about what I buy.

I'm not happy with the events that are unfolding but there's nothing I can do about it besides just not buy anything else on RDNA. I still buy stuff on DAZ that will work in Poser but that's been limited to scenes and props because I don't use any of the DAZ figures.

What a sad turn of events.
:grouphug: It's never easy when places we love to visit change. I'm going to support the vendors from RDNA where I can over at Daz or wherever else they go to especially the ones who have created for Dawn and Dusk.

There is actually a "fitting" room in development for DAZ Studio at this point. The thread for it was hidden, for what ever $#%&! reason the mods over there had for hiding it but all the youTube vids showing off what it can do were beyond impressive.
I will need to check this out Ram...sounds interesting.

How about something really healthy but tasty?

Sorry NA won that one hands down. I will drink green looking smoothies...I love's my nutri bullet but it can't compete with cheesecake.

Hahaha, I love the reactions... I'd probably add in a banana and some ginger. Green drinks don't have to be scary. First time I ever had one I was like no way and then took a sip and was very surprised at how yummy it was.
Yep...they can be surprisingly yummy.

Hopefully not too many quotes this time...it's hard being on the other side of the world.

They have samples at Costco for some machine - name escapes me..and they add all sorts of fruit & veggies - they're surprisingly good!

So originally I was going to introduce myself as an RDNA refugee. But after reading so many of the comments in this thread (not all of course I have to find time to eat and sleep) I feel more like an excited immigrant.

I'm a Poser user, but I'm glad to see the support for both Poser and Studio here. I will miss RDNA, and I hope some of their gritty stuff finds a home somewhere, but this may have turned into a good thing for me. I only entered this world of 3d art about 2 years ago. At the time I didn't know enough to understand the differences in figures or what the difference between Genesis and v4 was. I downloaded Dawn, but didn't really understand how to use her then, and as Studio confused me more and more, I started using v4 in Poser more and more.

However, the announcement over at RDNA made me start looking at other sites again. Not because I have anything specific against DAZ as a company, but because I just haven't seen any new products from them for a while that I could use in Poser.

And then I rediscovered Dawn. Now that I know a lot more about what I'm doing, I'm loving her, and am supper excited about the Faces of Africa and Faces of Asia packages I downloaded yesterday. I'm going to be playing with her a lot going forward, in fact, she may be supplanting v4 as my Poser figure of choice.

Something that grabbed my attention along the way.

Exactly. Also, and I could be mistaken, I don't think DAZ Connect = Encrypted necessarily. Connect is their way of putting files on your computer where they choose where the files go and you don't get any zip install file.

So overtime Daz Studio updates, I go check it out, to see if there's something worth me going through the pain of learning it (it just doesn't make sense to me, I'm not sure I could tell you why, except that I constantly loose access to my library). I did buy one set of Genesis 3 clothing to play around with, and it took me forever to figure out how to download it using DAZ Connect. That being said, it wasn't encrypted, and I was able to move it over to Poser in a couple different ways (once I'd spent about half an hour trying to figure out how to actually download and access a new purchase in DAZ Studio, I was once again done with trying to learn it).

However, I did notice an e-mail from DAZ today, they are specifically having a sale on encrypted content. Probably trying to test the waters to see how many people will knowingly by encrypted content.

Well, it's good to meet you all.

Oh, that's so cool!!! We love immigrants!!!

And solving the eat part is easy - bring it over to the computer
*takes a sip of coffee and bit of a Biscoff*

Sleeping - harder unless you can sleep in a chair sitting up....

Nice! Yeah, Virtual_World does *awesome* stuff. She did the textures for Dusk, Dawn SE & Baby Luna. Has a new one out - Monica - separate DS & Poser versions

Welcome!

I'll continue to support the RDNA content providers who create products for the HiveWire family ... even if they are selling at DAZ. I just don't believe I'll ever have to revisit my decision not to purchase from DAZ, because I doubt very much content for HiveWire figures will ever be sold there. For the record, I didn't make that decision because of their business decisions or how they "value" Poser customers or ... because DAZ is on par with the Evil Empire ... I may or may not believe any of that or some of that or all of that

Instead, I calculated the difference between the cost of the PC Subscription over the last several years and what I'd saved during that time. Turned out, I was spending money for a mostly unused subscription when that money could be better spent elsewhere on content I actually wanted and would use. I just don't make enough money to throw it away, you know?

Anyway ... since I no longer use any Gen 4 figure, supporting content providers "just so they continue to produce Poser content" when they basically only create Gen 4 content or create it periodically to throw Poser users a bone isn't really all that practical for me. It just doesn't make sense to me to continue to give my money to those who create content I don't use and don't want to use. The content providers I want to support are those who create for Dawn, Dusk, etc., or who include fits for the HiveWire figures.

To be honest, I spent most of my money on Poser utilities at RDNA because they didn't really support HiveWire figures all that much after the first year. Hopefully, those products will be made available elsewhere (preferrably here). I love Terradome. But it got to be too much of a money hog. The more you bought, the more you seemed to need to buy. And I just didn't use Terradome 2 enough to keep buying all the addons. Even if it was a fabulous product.

On a brighter note ... I'm so glad it's Friday! This has been the week from hell at work! I absolutely cannot wait to get home and kick my shoes off. Best of all, I have Rosemary and Olive Oil Sourdough Flatbread (that stuff is GOOD!) and Herb and Garlic Gournay Cheese planned for the weekend. Yummy! My tummy is going to be happy. Not quite as happy as if I were giving it chocolate. But it will just have to live with it.
