Hopefully not as many quotes this time...
...and another broken heart shuffles in.
I see a lot of old friends, though [smiles]; and who knows which others may become new friends?
Introducing myself, I mostly use Poser, and sometimes Vue. I enjoy making Poser material room node spaghetti. I model quite a bit, mostly in Silo but occasionally break out modo. Most of my stuff is for TinkerBell, and also a lot of Lord of the Rings items and Narnia stuff. Other times, it's sci-fi props. Oh, and environment playsets (terrains with skydomes).
Assuming there is a freebies section, I'll be needing to know where that is.
Welcome Seachnasaigh! I love all the stuff you mentioned...so I'll look forward to seeing what you make.
Heya
Al's fine - I just figure it's usually too short or already taken, and PangurBan isn't
Cheers
Al
Great! Al it is then much easier to type...gotta watch that carpal tunnel ; )
Saw it over at RDNA...must admit it was similar to what I had been thinking. Sometimes it's hard to know what is going on in a persons head without them explaining it.
Autofit is much simplier, so if it's the case, impact on DAZ store shoud be bigger, much more bigger. Plus WW was here for ages, CrossDresser... Don't think we should blame fitting room.
I'm not sure that I would blame the fitting room but you're right autofit is so much simpler and easy for people new to the 3d world to use. It's one of the things I love about DS...when I mess around in Poser to do things for Diva I've struggled to create clothing for her...it's one of the reasons I'm going to try to provide some clothing with her. Whereas in DS I never had a problem with most items.
You could be right I am just aware that some users did not move to Genesis, even the early ones, and instead used the fitting room to reuse the content they had already purchased, but then the fitting room would only have been one factor in that decision. It was just a thought that went through my mind, most go through so quick I don't notice but this stuck around for some reason.
I think this happened to a certain extent with the first genesis...many people had lots of content and the skill to be able to use autofit easily. The original Genesis had all the clones for Gen 4 and Gen 3 and alternative uv's for Gen4 it was so easy to use older content.
It is my belief that Daz realised that they had made a marketing mistake with Genesis and that is why they moved back to split figures and provided those figures originally with only the clone and uv's for Genesis. I know that the official version is it was too hard to create for an androgynous figure but if I could do it and all the vendors who created beautiful outfits(female as well as male could) *shrugs
Not trying to bash Daz with this...they are after all a business. For me at the time it happened it was a bit of shock as I had felt like they were more than that. I think that many people felt like that about Daz so when they acted like a business not family they were shocked...
Well, I'm not young by any means (I'm an old fart) but some of these folks have a huge money investment in that pipeline and can't afford to start buying merchant resources all over again for new figures.
I do enjoy learning new things, though, so I took to weight mapping very early in the process when it was pretty painful to learn. The new and improved tools in Poser have really helped to make it easier and faster.
I was surprised in the last 6 months that I had two vendors ask if they could use my morphs for Genesis3 in commercial products. I didn't realise until then how many vendors rely on spinning dials and merchant resources. A bit naive I know but I thought more vendors created their own morphs. So this may well be a major issue for some.
It's possible that many who relied on pre-made clothing moved to Studio where the content is, whereas many who made or modified their own stuck with Poser. If Poser users are more inclined to create their own content (mere speculation on my part) then it would create a "vicious" cycle that can only lead vendors elsewhere. Vendor support doesn't tell the whole story of how many are using Poser and without access to sales figures and demographics the end users can only speculate.
I don't think it was only people swapping...I think Daz did a major drive to bring in new people when they did Genesis. Around that time there was certainly an influx of newbies needing help and the Community Volunteers had a major focus on trying to help newbies and to ensure they found DS easy to use. That's not totally speculation as when the CV's first started I was part of the group.
What I'd REALLY like to know is what will happen to the Terra Dome? Since it was primarily a Poser -only product. My guess is that it will DAZ's priority to get it working in Studio and then all Poser development on it will cease.
There were people working on it prior to the announcement as I remember reading a thread on it. I hope that they will continue to support both programs. Some people do still do so over at Daz but it is happening less.
Yes, Pendraia. I'm the one who created the Stryke Angel outfit for Star. I really enjoyed my experience documented in that thread. Even when I was ready to pull my hair out, it was fun.
I thought that was you...you did a fantastic job. I hadn't gotten around to picking it up yet so I hope that it's still available somewhere. The Australian dollar has been so bad in the last year or so that I've had to be more careful about what I buy.
I'm not happy with the events that are unfolding but there's nothing I can do about it besides just not buy anything else on RDNA. I still buy stuff on DAZ that will work in Poser but that's been limited to scenes and props because I don't use any of the DAZ figures.
What a sad turn of events.
It's never easy when places we love to visit change. I'm going to support the vendors from RDNA where I can over at Daz or wherever else they go to especially the ones who have created for Dawn and Dusk.
There is actually a "fitting" room in development for DAZ Studio at this point. The thread for it was hidden, for what ever $#%&! reason the mods over there had for hiding it but all the youTube vids showing off what it can do were beyond impressive.
I will need to check this out Ram...sounds interesting.
How about something really healthy but tasty?
Avocado, Spinach, and Pear Smoothie

Sorry NA won that one hands down. I will drink green looking smoothies...I love's my nutri bullet but it can't compete with cheesecake.
Hahaha, I love the reactions... I'd probably add in a banana and some ginger. Green drinks don't have to be scary. First time I ever had one I was like no way and then took a sip and was very surprised at how yummy it was.
Yep...they can be surprisingly yummy.
Hopefully not too many quotes this time...it's hard being on the other side of the world.
