Good morning, Sky. :)

Yes, the script should run on any version of DS 4. I've been using it on 4.8 so far. I just don't have the more advanced dynamic controls (for some blasted reason I seem to have never installed the 4.8 advanced dynamic controls... and of course now you can't get that version of it out of the product library... figures. LOL)

I haven't been "down" for pc reasons. My brain has just been ridiculously distracted tonight. I really hate ADD sometimes. Especially unmedicated ADD, and I'm not one who likes to push for pills, but OMFG it makes it SO hard to concentrate at times. I've had that how-to on the poses about halfway completed for two hours... keep getting distracted!

Argh. LOL

Anyway. I am putting it together; I have not forgotten. :)

As far as the CMS goes - that has to do with Smart Content and searching for content... I think. I'm not entirely sure what it does, but I think it's tied into things like using the "search" function inside of Studio, database something-or-other. It's necessary for the program to function, though, I think. The download manager is *not* the CMS; but maybe it will have the 4.9 version of the CMS in it? I really wish I could help, but I have not yet started the upgrade process from 4.8 to 4.9 myself. :/

Okay....no problem ....haha. It's enough to know that they are not talking about the content manager, so I can search elsewhere for the answer. I've noticed that things like dynamic controls comes up in the download manager so I'll be sure to grab that one. And it's no problem, I was the one who got brave and launched into the upgrade. I figure I can always re-install 4.7 , if I can't figure out what's with 4.9, alongside 4.9. At least I was getting the hang of that version somewhat. I didn't expect this to be easy...haha...not in the least...it's all new territory since the program has changed so much in recent years. Not a problem :)

So I guess you haven't had experience with Iray yet...right? Only works with Nvidia cards? or will it function , just more slowly, with my on board graphics?

Yes, you will want to grab the dynamic controls if you stick with 4.9 and intend to make use of dynamic cloth. I bloody well SHOULD have grabbed the 4.8 dynamic controls, and I have no idea why I didn't. I normally grab and then promptly back up, ALL installation related files for my DS versions...

The advanced dynamic control version MUST match the version of your Studio program. So, if you run DS 4.8, then the advanced dynamic control plugin must be the 4.8 version. Running DS 4.8 and installing the 4.9 advanced dynamics will not work, as far as I know...

Iray does, technically, function without an Nvidia card. But it functions a LOT slower, as it has to render using the CPU only. With an Nvidia card, IIRC, Iray can render making use of BOTH the CPU and the GPU. But if you don't have an Nvidia graphics card, then you can ONLY make use of the CPU for Iray renders.

I do not use Iray myself, because of that very fact. LOL No way I'm going to dump my whole system just to go get a dang Nvidia card. Nuh uh! I stick to 3Delight renders... I figure the Iray folks can handle setting up their Iray materials with my stuff, just like I have to set up 3Delight materials for Iray content items. ;)

Okay, so it's like Poser Superfly rendering....my workstation will do it, I've tried it a few times, but I'd have to set aside extra time for the rendering process...and just rendering quick pose promos is not worth all that. I do want to explore it though, as I'm fascinated with metals and stuff like shiny car paint, glass, and mirrors. It would probably be great for still life, and I could probably do both, Iray in DS and Superfly in Poser, if I keep the scenes simple like that.

Yes, probably. I love the results that the PBR's are capable of producing. I just don't have the patience to let my laptop spend 12 to 24 hours rendering on one single scene...

LOL. There's the ADD talking again. ;)

But yeah. If you're going to make use of Iray, set aside extra time for the render to run, and expect it will take longer than it otherwise would if you can only make use of the CPU for it.

Just installed the dynamic controls for 4.9, installing the lights and shaders now.

Good luck. :) I have a dang render running that was supposed to be one of Nataani's last two promos, but noooooooo Hannah and her wolfish uncle instead...

And while that's running I'm sitting here typing up the rest of the how-to on pose saves... LOL

Sky? I just noticed that Szark is now here. He did a lot of work with new users over at Daz so I've sent him a pm to see if he can help you with your problem. He's in the UK so he is probably awake at this time but I don't know when he'll look at his conversations.

I'm multi-tasking too....changing the water in Jo's fishtank, installing parts of DS 4.9, chatting here on the forum, and watching Matlock...

My understanding is that it runs faster with the Nvidia cards but you don't have to have one.

Well, you know what ever you sow toward me in terms of information will come back 100 fold, whether you especially wanted it or not...haha...I tend to drag everybody else with me through what I'm learning :)

Hey Seliah, I know you said you prefer manual installs...one thing that's nice about the download manager, it shows you everything in the account, so it's kinda hard to miss something, plus you can grab the downloaded zips from your hard drive from C:Users-Public-Public Documents-DAZ3D-InstallManager-Downloads ....you can back them up on an external drive and save a lot of space on your hard drive, once you get things installed and settled down. Sorta takes out two birds with one stone so-to-speak :)

Yeah, I've looked at the DIM before. I just didn't like it. I know it would make some stuff easier, but I guess I'm just set in my ways. I tried it out a while ago and couldn't stand it.. LOL.

I might give it another try with 4.9, but we'll see. I reallllllllly hated it the last time I tried it out! :roflmao:

My only issue with it was the type size is kinda small, and after searching a long list like that, I was pretty cross-eyed...haha :) You have to make sure you get anything that says StudioCF or DS, and not the PS stuff...and in my case, I had some Bryce and Carrara stuff to avoid also.

Yeah, the CF stuff is for the DSON importer... which I don't use, since I don't use Poser to make my art with. :)

The list is one of the problems I had with DIM in the past. I do not find Daz's file naming convention even remotely helpful. Being able to click the products one at a time in my product library, and thus renaming and saving the installer in the right place right off the rip is what works for me.

I have my own way of organizing, and it is certainly not Daz's way. LOL

For dedicated Poser users, this is what I'm referring to...the download manager gives you everything in the form of a list, and you go through and check what you want to install. You can opt to not have it install automatically and just harvest it from your manager files.

One thing I do like about the download manager...it lets you see everything. Like for instance, I could search M4 in the product library, but it would not necessarily give me every M4 product, as some vendors name their stuff with odd names that don't reflect what the product is for...and over time you forget...this is particularly true of texture sets.

Here's link to DS documentation, including PDF manuals. I've rolled back to DS 4.7 for now, and will hang onto the 4.9 installation for later, once I find out what to do with the offline installation files .sea and .sep, listed as necessary on the account DS 4.9 Product Library page.
