Official Announcement: DAZ terminates agreement to publish HiveWire 3D animals!

Hope it's OK to paste this from the comments in Daz gallery about one of the HW kitten renders...Kitty is all over Top Recent!! So at least some good exposure came out of this.

Quote from comments at Daz Gallery:

'We all know internet belongs to the cats. With a model like this, perhaps they can knock down all the scantily clad ladies and take their rightful place as rulers of the DAZ galleries too. Well, one can always dream...'

I'm sorry to hear the news, but this is exactly what happened to me.

DAZ said they wanted to sell all my products, we signed an agreement, and then they cancelled the agreement because of "negative comments" that they claimed I made. They didn't say what comments I made, where they saw the comments, or what made them so upset that they cancelled the agreement.
But most of all, they never offered to talk to me about these "comments" and resolve any issues like adults so we could both continue to make money. If we assume that DAZ keeps 50% of the product sale, then if I was making thousands of dollars in sales then DAZ is also making thousands of dollars in sales. Yet they're willing to cut off that income and terminate a signed agreement rather than talk things over.

And this may sound like a conspiracy theory, but I also wonder if there's some jealously from the top-selling PA's. After I made my agreement with DAZ, I quickly had 400 products listed on their site, making me the second-largest PA after RDNA. I don't think a lot of top PA's didn't like the fact that I suddenly jumped from 0 products to 400, especially when a lot of my products were older or were meant for use in Poser, Studio Max, or Vue. But the PA's shouldn't blame me since DAZ should have chosen not to upload those products.
So I think there's a similar situation here. Suddenly, Hivewire has a lot of products and they're taking attention away from the usual top PA's. And there's probably some truth to the idea that Hivewire's animals are better than the DAZ animals, which is probably why DAZ wanted to sell the products in the first place. But again, this creates jealously from the DAZ PA's who worked on those animals.

And like I said before, it seems like DAZ would rather terminate an agreement than discuss the issues.

Wow John. I didn't know about all this. I'm sorry to hear such news. It would appear a trend is going on here, seeing that we've both experienced a similar situation.

Once we got the couple of emails back from DAZ that they weren't happy by my announcement post, Lisa responded back in email. I followed it up a several days after with a couple of phone calls and text messages. Then it went dark for a week, and we heard nothing back. Then... boom! It was over.

My thought is that they weighed out the pros and cons, and the cons won. I believe they see this as a casualty of doing business, and that's all. I think in their minds folks will air their thoughts and feelings about it for a week or two, and then move on. DAZ knows that only a portion of their buying audience ever visits the forums, so with that data behind them, they simply accept a bit of fall out as part of the deal, or in our cases... no deal.

It's only the few (like those of us here) that are deep into this stuff that will bare the affects of all this. Artists that care about our content, folks that care about a perceived injustice, and those that were hopeful for a joint venture.

Having said this, I know Lisa, myself, and the HiveWire team, and many passionate people will not forget this so easily. All this does is amp up our drive to find ways to make things happen, make improvements, and move forward with an injection of Hulk blood into our collective muse!

Oh gosh. A Lavender Festival! Is that the Sequim Lavender Festival? That would be absolutely amazing.
It is, and it was!

Here ya go, this might help everyone breathe in deeply and relax for a minute.

Actually, I was worried that, based on my experiences with DAZ that I'd be looking at price increases for the Hivewire animals. So, all in all, maybe this isn't such bad news afterall. Confirms my opinion that the Daz folks aren't very professional in spite of what they say about themselves.

The only good thing since that happened has been the less beautiful G8F, even though folks are griping about that.

Don't worry about Genesis 8 - dual quaternion rigging with only a single weight map per joint is only great for game engine models, which has nothing to do with this market. In other words, DAZ is now creating figures for the gaming market, not for us anymore. Genesis 2 was the last DAZ figure to ship with quality topology and enough poly count to allow for decent morphing capabilities. Genesis 3 and 8 have both a low-poly, very simplified topology in comparison. So much that DAZ has been pushing HD morphs as the viable solution for such low-poly game models, which were never needed with Genesis 2.

I have been getting a lot of private commission jobs to create clothing and morphs for Genesis 3 and 8, and I can tell you, the rigging is a nightmare. These figures only pose decently because of tons of JCM corrective morphs, so "rigging" is now less about weight maps and more about ZBrush sculpting. Takes forever! We are back to the ancient times of Victoria 3 and her tons of pesky JCMs from 20 years ago. Makes me happy whenever people commission me for the older Genesis figures, from a time where DAZ figures were still meant for this market.

I looked all over my account to find the newsletters but there is none in my Account settings so I just found one I had gotten this AM and found the Unsubscribe link and did that.
Hmmmm, I just checked mine as well, and couldn't find it either. Weird, because I distinctly remember there being an option for the newsletters, especially since I haven't been a PC+ member for a year and a half, but still get the PC+ newsletter, as if the other newsletters every day aren't enough. ~shakes head~

We would be happy to have the animals at Renderosity. No Exclusive Agreement required. :) You know my email. :)

Dig it!!

Thanks for speaking out here Jennifer. Kind of you to make the offer to extend our audience for our "HiveWire 3D" animals.

We'll be in touch.

Well, I for one have no issue with coming over here to buy anyway. Daz gets enough of my money, I am more than happy to share the wealth with others. They need some competition anyway. I am not sure why people aren't willing to shop anywhere else, especially if the models are better. And, I had already bought all the cats and horses here anyway lol. Hopefully, you will have picked up some new fans in the short time you were over there anyway.

A word of caution here ladies and gents, especially anyone selling there. Please be very careful what you say about "the other place" or you too might find yourself getting grassed up and kicked out.

That's what happened to JH (page 6 of this thread).

PS - apologies for the username. I sell at various "places" and I'm worried if they knew who I was they'd drop me quicker than a hot potato. Can't afford to lose any money.

You probably will, Miss B :D I actually thought of you a while back and wondered why I hadn't seen you around the usual traps - took a while to occur to me you were here. LOL.
Yup, been here for 4 years now, and loving every minute of it. :D

I just got up to go to brush my teeth and as I looked in the mirror, I realized I am wearing purple slipper socks, purple track pants, and a long sleeved purple top. I'm like a giant Purple People Eater! Didn't even occur to me when I was getting dressed. :p
Hmmmmm, now why is that not so hard for me to picture.

I, for once, was never a fan of 3D animals... until I saw what HW was doing here. I ended up buying all the cats - big and small. If someone told me I would be buying 3D animals years ago, I would say they were nuts. Stuff happens...
