We switched from paper to an online tracking system recently. Vacation/Sick/etc., leave requests are all now submitted and tracked through this system rather than on paper. The advantage is that we can daily see what our leave balances are. We'd stopped getting our monthly leave sheets when the person who did all that retired because of health. Since the company had been "planning" to switch to an online tracking system for ... years, it just wasn't considered important to have someone do the leave balances manually. We never got the last six months of leave balances before the online tracking system was implemented in November. Not very cool in my opinion since everything was done manually. I'd had to request corrections several times over the years because of accounting errors.
At least that shouldn't be an issue now.
Would be nice too if we could submit ALL our leave requests in advance (I take Fridays off during the summer). But we're only allowed to request leave a month in advance. In the past, I'd print out all my leave requests for the summer and pin them up where they would remind me to give them to my supervisor the first of each month. Now, I have to record all that in Excel, and try to remember to create the requests the first of each month. Maybe I'll setup a calendar reminder
