We switched from paper to an online tracking system recently. Vacation/Sick/etc., leave requests are all now submitted and tracked through this system rather than on paper. The advantage is that we can daily see what our leave balances are. We'd stopped getting our monthly leave sheets when the person who did all that retired because of health. Since the company had been "planning" to switch to an online tracking system for ... years, it just wasn't considered important to have someone do the leave balances manually. We never got the last six months of leave balances before the online tracking system was implemented in November. Not very cool in my opinion since everything was done manually. I'd had to request corrections several times over the years because of accounting errors.

At least that shouldn't be an issue now.

Would be nice too if we could submit ALL our leave requests in advance (I take Fridays off during the summer). But we're only allowed to request leave a month in advance. In the past, I'd print out all my leave requests for the summer and pin them up where they would remind me to give them to my supervisor the first of each month. Now, I have to record all that in Excel, and try to remember to create the requests the first of each month. Maybe I'll setup a calendar reminder :p

A reminder sounds good. :)

As for the mess at work, if necessary I can have a guy over at the warehouse get my database save from the 7th and overwrite the current version with that and then I reapply the batches of stuff I did today. Then we send to whole mess to the registers. I tried to have his boss do that today but I have my doubts that he actually got the correct files copied over.

Hey there! All that sounds far too complicated for this bear of very little brain o_O I hope it means you get your days off and your vacations eventually, Terre and Satira.

Another warm and muggy day in Opua. Overcast, then sunny, then overcast, then sunny, repeat until fed up. This weather is bringing out the sandflies in plague proportions and the boat reeks of bug off. Crazy, crazy autumn.

My old firm went with an electronic system last year. I don't know off hand how far in advance they submit their vacation plans, etc., but the folks I know still working there like it.

Oh and Satira, I do calendar (as in cellphone calendar) reminders for everything. ;)

Hi guys. :)

Umm.... Stuff went kablooy.
I had to go back in for a couple of hours this afternoon. I also need to go in tomorrow instead of have the day off both to make sure that the fix we tried to apply this afternoon took and to make sure that things go well with the pricing on the tags the warehouse guys will be hanging tomorrow.
On the bright side my paycheck next Wednesday will be bigger than I had expected as I'm hourly instead of on salary.
Dunno how long I'll end up being there tomorrow.
Hope it all gets sorted Terre...I hope it doesn't encroach too much on your down time.

A bigger check is nice!

But no fun to have to work on your day off.

I'm salaried, so working more hours doesn't get me a bigger check, nor does it result in comp time.

Even more annoying, we all now have to fill out a timesheet whether we're hourly or salaried. Mine is always 4 hours over every week, since I only take a lunch hour on Wednesdays. But be late, and I have to use vacation time.
Teachers don't get paid overtime either, but we're frequently expected to work extra hours including overnight when the kids do their sleep over or in the older grades when they go on camp.

Done until tomorrow morning as far as I can tell. I ended up doing part of my Tuesday work today so I might be getting off earlier in the morning than usual.
The explosion came from an old grocery price file from 2014 getting drug into the zip that needed to be sent. The fix the AFI guy did yesterday did work it just takes about a half hour to send over 53,000 items to the registers if it'd slow. We were busy then so the transfer was going at a snail's pace.

Hey Terre, have you rested up from all that extra work you had to do the past few days?

Terre

Partly. I left at 10am instead of noon today and will go back at my normal Tuesday evening time of 5pm. The main rest will be Friday when I (hopefully) will get my next day off. We'll see.

Howdy, howdy! A windy gloomy day here in Opua but still warm. Nuts!

Hope you get your days off, Terre, you'll be whacked as otherwise.

I joined a local photography group a wee while ago and just got prodded by the organiser to join in a couple of the field trips. I had to tell her I was waiting for an afternoon trip as owls don't like mornings ;) She was a bit nonplussed to say the least. I like photography but I spent way too many mornings at the mercy of Bridezillas to want to do THAT again!

~LOL~ I took a photography class years ago, and it was fun, but the only outing we went on was to a photography convention, and that just made me want to upgrade my equipment, which I eventually did, but not then.

They have got some nice outings planned, most of them geared toward morning folk. There is an afternoon one I've said I'll go to in September. If more arvo ones pop up, I'll go to them as well.

That should be fun. Take lots of pictures, and then use them as backgrounds in your renders. ;)
