Well, as long as we're talking about Bryce. I got into Poser because I had written a book. I self published it, but I needed a book cover. Poser help me create the look of characters for the book. but I needed something else for the cover. The story was set in the future, and under the ocean in a city called New Atlantis. I really wasn't very skilled and with what I can do now I'd make that cover look like a second grader's crayon drawing, but I was rather proud of the cover I created using Bryce 2.0.

That's not bad at all for someone new to the software.

Funny that this came up. My publisher for that book just sent me a W-2 for my tax filings. I think it was for $5. I was stunned someone was still buying it.

Also, if you notice the book says Book One. Yep, I had intended to write a triology, and in fact, I did write, but did not publish Book Two. I also wrote most of Book 3, before I just said to hell with it.

Thanks, Pendraia. I've been doing a lot of props lately, in particular food props that I'm going to offer in a food pack. Or I should say packs, starting with fruit. I'll think I'll make them my first Hivewire offer if the QAV team will accept them. If not, well... we'll see.

And of course, you've seen my bedroom... well, not my bedroom, but the props I'm making.

Now, since i don't buy at daz since the bad movement against some users ( i was one) and don't buy a lot at rdna, cause there is also almost nothing for Miki, i don't care about both sides.
But i don't like it at all.

I'm happy, that i found hivewire and that rendo is still alive, so i know, where i can spend my money

I started 2005 but I've read a few things about the history of Daz and Poser so not really surprised by what people have posted. At one time I even got the newsletter from Zygote...

I am a post-Zygote DSer, my first was DS2 in 2005, I think. I started with V3 and A3 and a lot of fairy stuff

Not sure if I ever had DS1, Sky, I don't think I did. Pretty sure DS2 was my starting point. Though I did have a go at Bryce before that. I found it on a cd, installed it and had a play. Daz didn't own it then, someone else did.

I do actually still have Poser 4 installed on my daughter's ancient Mac. But her Mac is so old it can't even navigate online anymore, so no way for me to take my own screen shot of it. But THAT is the Poser I started with, except that mine read "Metacreations" and not Curious Labs; I never owned the original ProPack, but I held onto P4 all the way up until P6 was released, and THEN got P5 on a discount price... I stayed with Poser right up until version 7 when my ancient hardware just could no longer use it, which is what forced my initial migration into DS (then up to version 4.3).

Poser 1 and 2 was definitely before my time. Poser 3 was before my time also, though I did come in during the middle of Poser 4's reign, I believe. I was so green to all of this that I was setting up scenes and just exporting the image... I still remember how shocked I was when I discovered the "render" menu function and realized we were actually supposed to do more than set up and export!!

I thought that History of Poser link was interesting, showed every version interface...and Poser 1 and 2 were very different from the appearance of Poser 4 and 5.

Heck, Poser 5 was VERY different, drastically different, from the interface of Poser 4, to be honest with you. It took me quite a while to get adjusted to the new UI in Poser 5...

And this is just because, well... if you can't laugh at your own self.......

This was the VERY FIRST image I ever "produced"... July of 2002, this was even way back before I had settled on my COF nickname, and way back before I had even started putting dates on my pictures.

I had not even found the render button yet!! P4 female, the old Uthena's dress, two different hair objects combined, no skin texture, just a diffuse color, and this horrible lava type thing out of an old Bryce 5, I think it was (can't remember if it was Bryce 4 or 5 at that point). Set up and just straight export...

I should be ashamed to even let this one out of the locked box I normally keep it hidden in! But nowadays I think it's just hilarious... like I said before... I was as green as the prairie back then!

Was that when rigging was introduced? I remember there was a book out about rigging in Poser 5 that became the must have for those who were into that.

I believe rigging was introduced in the original Pro Pack. Or at least, introduced on the user side of the program.

Poser 4 I think is what introduced the idea of conforming cloth...

[Edit to add] Yes, I just double checked. Poser 4 introduced conforming cloth, and the original ProPack introduced the Setup room to the program.

Everybody has got to get started somehow...and for a first render, I think you did a pretty good job. My first render was so bad, I don't have it now...haha.

So the Pro Pack add-on was the first rigging...so Poser 5 was the first version to include rigging without an additional pack...sorta like Game Dev being separate in Poser 2014, then part of the program by Poser 11.

I wasn't a frequent forum poster then either. I preferred doing most of my posting on the Usenet bulletin boards. Hmm, as long as we're talking history, I wonder if Chris has given any thought to giving Dawn Sr1 out as a freebie in one of those computer magazines yet?
