I saw him live once, and that's the only song I ever heard him sing that I liked. That said, however, I'm sure there are others who could do it much better. He always sounded like he was shouting it, not singing it.

Edited to Add:

Out of curiosity, I just discovered that Michael Bolton's version was the 4th recording of the song . . . that it was first recorded by Percy Sledge back in 1966, and then a Country singer I'm not familiar with in 1976, and once again by Bette Midler in 1980. How Michael Bolton's version made it to the top of the Billboard 100 Chart is amazing.

It's actually been recorded more than four times. Otis Redding, Joe Cocker and I think it was Mick Jagger also did versions.

Mick Jagger? Hmmm, some how I can't "hear" that. Otis Redding, yes, but Mick Jagger . . . nope.

I got my info from Wikipedia, and they only mentioned the 4 recordings. Then again, a lot of the information they have is "contributed" by individuals, so it's possible no one had the information about the other recordings.

Oops, I owe you an apology. For some reason, when you were talking about the song When a Man Loves A Woman, somehow I got it mixed up with Ain't Too Proud to Beg.
