Woot! I’ve been trying to find a way to show everyone one of the coloring book images I’ve done.,, trying to describe the bright stain glass effect of the “color by numbers” pictures... since it’s on my phone I can only share it via my phone and this one friend doesn’t have a cell phone... so forgive me for posting an image in this thread... but I wanted it here as it’s part of my life story right now.

PSS Scripps is the very first place where the doctors and nurses are so good and helpful!! Also in San Diego there is a company of home care specialist nurses that can come to my home and change my bandages, help with physical therapy and even counseling! All taking great care for my fragile immune system!

Great to hear you are being well looked after in that respect, really sorry to hear about the delay but hoping you manage to expedite it.

Lyne, that's lovely! Glad they're being helpful there, but oh, boy, I know how hard it is to wait as you're having to.

Hope they can get things handled soon so you can get to healing and home again!

Well, I think you did a fantastic job of it Lyne. It's a great image, and I'm glad to see you're doing art, as that always seems to please you.

It's so good to see you pop into this thread now and then. I can't imagine what you're going through, and I hope you get things sorted sooner, rather than later. :grouphug:

Apparently I am still signed in, so here I am very early in the am... STILL no surgery and am VERY disillusioned in the General Surgeon so I’m going to call my UCSD wound surgeon and say so, and tell himimI want a Scripps skin cancer surgeon! FYI it’s a slow growing Basel Carcinoma.... still waiting this long is ridiculous ! I’ll ask if my wound care doctor (whom I like) if he wants me to call Scripps or does he want to- but I’ll be very clear as to what I want! A surgeon who has experience and knowledge of my particular need!! My anxiety is really awful with this waiting and I deserve to get this surgery behind me!!
Thanks again for your kind thoughts- I truly appreciate them!!!
I am glad that it is only a BCC (Basal Cell Carcinoma) and not an SCC (Squamous Cell Carcinoma) or worse, a Malignant mole (which I thought you have). BCC's take a long time to spread so try not to be too anxious. If I had to choose the type of skin cancer to have that is what I'd choose! If the lesion is superficial, it is first scraped or curetted and then cauterised or frozen with liquid nitrogen. If it is deeper you will probably have Mohs Surgery where the cancer is remove layer by layer until all the cancer cells are removed - cosmetic result is quite good. It is only for deep lesions that Excision Surgery is required. If you are kept waiting, I am sure all you need is curettage and cautery or Mohs surgery so try to relax and not get over excited. I hope this helps. All the best.

*sigh* I just had a squamous cel dug out of my arm at the beginning of the month. I would certainly have preferred a Mohs procedure (which I had for a basel cel -- that turned out to have a squamous cel lurking underneath it) back in 2014. This one left me with a 2-inch inscision which seems to be healing fairly well. But at least they got it authorized and done with in excellent time.

Still, annoying as all get out. and I suspect that it may not be the last of them I develop.

I’m waiting to be referred to a Scripps surgeon since the other surgeon has been ignoring me and truth be told I think he doesn’t want to do my Basel Carcinoma mole- he’s a general surgeon .... I’ve lost all confidence in him so I asked my wound care doctor to refer me to a Scripps surgeon- after all it was a Scripps surgeon who saved my life when my lungs had such a serious problem I nearly died....

I also need to let you all know I’m very emotionally fragile right now and it’s upsetting me to hear about more scary cancer stories- I just can’t even read about things like that. MY mole is a SLOW GROWING type that simply needs to be taken off .... but unfortunately I do have to be put under for the surgeon to go deep enough to make sure it will not grow back...

Once that is done my wound care doctor that I do like, can start reconstruction of the skin on my back... (I’m too skinny to use my own skin- and it would hurt a LOT because of my fibromyalgia!) so he will have to use some synthetic skin... and too this will take a long long healing time. But at least once that surgery is behind me I’ll be more relaxed.

So all I need and ask for are PRAYERS and good thoughts that I and my fragile lungs come through this surgery really well.., Thanks so much!

Lynn, I so know what you mean about how stressful and upsetting it is to hear about other people's experiences with an illness. My family has a history of a life threatening illness, and when a coworker's wife had that illness, he talked ENDLESSLY about everything she was going through. After several weeks of that, I would have to leave the room when he started talking about it because it was just too stressful and upsetting to me.

Some people do find it helpful to hear from others who have had experiences that turned out well, while for others, any mention of it makes what they are dealing with even more terrifying. It helps to know when that's the case! So thank you for letting us know.

Hopefully, you will get a referral to a surgeon you can trust and who will get you in as quickly as possible.

Here in Australia, BCCs and SCCs are usually treated by the person's GP (General Practitioner). Early superficial BCCs can be treated without surgery with the application of Alldara. Otherwise the lesion is treated by a Simple excision (sometimes referred to as an excision biopsy). The excised lesion is then sent to the Lab for Histology (an examination that includes a microscopic examination) to make sure that the clearance is adequate (that is to make sure that there are no cancer cells left behind). If the clearance is adequate, that is all the treatment that is required. For more advanced lesions or for lesions on the face where cosmetic result is important, the patient is referred to a Dermatologist (a skin specialist who also does skin surgery) for treatment. When a Malignant Melanoma is diagnosed, an urgent referral will be made for the patient to see a Dermatologist as soon as possible (usually within a week). Where a diagnosis is uncertain and the lesion is small the GP may do an excision biopsy first. I do not know what it's like in the US, but I think it is only if the lesion is large and advanced that you would need reconstruction surgery.

We all have different ways of dealing with matters particularly the worrying kind. For some they want to talk about it and for others they manage to bury it somewhere in the back of the mind so any talk only drags such thoughts out of that dark place. Of course the right method is the one that works for the person who is dealing with the problem and those around them need to understand and respect that. It is good to know how Lyne wants to deal with it I continue to pray for Lyne and hope the wait is short and comfortable.
