I lived, not visited in Korea, Japan and Germany. I still say while each place has it's charm, there is no better place to live than the USA. While we have a terrible person running for president and doing quite well at it, I think the man just elected President of the Philippines is much worse. At least from what I've read. Geez, rokket. Where did you take your wife in the USA that she never wanted to visit here again?
Now then, I've done the same as you. Written what I'm going to turn into a comic in novel form. While it would be great to be picked up by a major publishing house, self publishing is now here to stay. That means more, if not better choices per genre so let her rip! I will warn you that from what I've read in a forum thread over at Rendo that Marvel seems rather hardcore against letting others use their characters in any way. Even fan fiction which is rather ridiculous to litigate as ALL super-hero movies are not considered canon. Right this second, there are two different Pietro's aka Quicksilver in the movies as we speak. Apparently he didn't age from the 1970's till today. DC seems to be much better natured about it. While my crossover is about DC, I still have the heroes of Astro City in the back of my mind. They are off the grid so to speak but it's as a remarkable a world of super heroes and most of all non-super heroes and supporting casts as I've ever read. I wondered where some of my favorite writers and talented artists went. They went their own way and a lot of them went to Astro City. That said, a reference without referring to Thor and others shouldn't get you in hot water.
Has your story outline changed much from the one I read? I know I was a pain the drain asking silly questions that we used to assume in the old days but I think you enjoyed solving continuity issues. Heck, I've been working on my story for a few years and I still have questions about how certain things will work!
It's a pity we can't really have a story thread. While we could exchange idea's here or over at the writer's corner of Renderosity, I certainly won't for the simple reason that idea thieves are everywhere. I once read that only 10 percent of the people have creative genes. The rest are all consumers of idea's. Nothing wrong with that. Still it puts idea's and stories at a premium. I have a relative that showed her idea to a hollywood b-list star. He stole her idea and made it into a movie for which she got nothing. No I won't mention names as I'm sure there is some google spider that would record it and I would be getting a nasty letter from some attorney but I know her. I believe her. Just make sure those you share your idea's with are people to be trusted, then massage your idea's, put it away and come back to it a week later with fresh input from that wonderful mind of yours.
Okay, I'm putting my soapbox away as I don't want to change my name from quietrob to Won't-shut-up-rob
