Yes, and a number of years later, Seattle Slew, but I always thought Secretariat the better looking hunk of horse flesh. However, we had a little horse over the lake named Secretariat.
Triple Crown winners make really big headlines.... American Pharaoh. He joins Secretariat and Seattle Slew in that category.Yeah, I haven't watched the Kentucky Derby in years, but I doubt there are any racing with the quality of those two horses. They both made front page news in their day.
He went on the Ed Sullivan show? Cool. They didn't put peanut butter in his upper lip to make him look like he was talking did they?Man o'War is #1 in the Top 100 Thoroughbreds of the 20th Century, Secretariat is #2, War Admiral (sired by Man o'War) #13, Phar Lap #22, Seabiscuit (his grandsire was Man o'War) #25.
Another NZ bred but this time also NZ owned and trained horse that did well in the States was the standard bred harness racer, Cardigan Bay. He was the first standardbred to win $1,000,000 in stake money and even went on the Ed Sullivan Show.
yup. He was a great horse.Okay, I was trying to unify all horse lovers. So since it's a friendly discussion I'll say that Secretariat set the record for the last leg of the Belmont stakes in 1973.
43 years later, that record still stands today. Phar Lap and Seabiscuit had better movies but there was no horse that was considered faster than Superman and pretter than Muhammed Ali except for Secretariat. The race is on Youtube and you'll be amazed.
Ahhhh, it feels much better to let it out!
