Yep that it is...Phar Lap however is in my opinion a joint venture as though born in nz he was raised and trained in Australia.

I would be the annoying one who would pick the fruit off the top and leave the rest for everyone else.

I'm pretty sure that's a crime punishable with hanging over there... :roflmao:

I wonder who was faster? Phar Lap is a legend and deservedly so.

However, we had a little horse over the lake named Secretariat. Pity they ran in different era's. I won't say who was better out of respect and because I met a kiwi gal once. It's been over 20 years and I still smile when I think of her. Who was faster, better, stronger? The answer is clear. Harry, the Hivewire Horse is currently undefeated! Much love to New Zealand and the Aussies from the Yanks!

They are long gone now. Too bad. You go from champion to stud. You go from stud to museum exhibit.

At least they did go from stud to glue....

Yeah, I haven't watched the Kentucky Derby in years, but I doubt there aren't any racing now with the quality of those two horses. They both made front page news in their day.

Speaking of glue. There is an old urban legend that in "Young Frankenstein" the horses whinny at the sound of Frau Blucher's name because it's the German word for glue.

Unfortunately, the German word for 'glue' is not Blucher. There are several different words, each with a specific meaning.

Another good myth shot down in flames. Personally I liked that one. Now the horses are just whinnying for nothing...

Triple Crown winners make really big headlines.... American Pharaoh. He joins Secretariat and Seattle Slew in that category.

I wonder who would have won that race? If we could get a time machine and enter all three of those horses in a derby?

If I am not mistaken, American Pharaoh set some track records along the way.

Add Man O' War to the lineup for the race and that would be interesting indeed. The only reason he wasn't in the Kentucky Derby is that his owner felt that was too early in the year to race him. The way he ran the other two he might have also been a triple crown winner.

Okay, I was trying to unify all horse lovers. So since it's a friendly discussion I'll say that Secretariat set the record for the last leg of the Belmont stakes in 1973.

43 years later, that record still stands today. Phar Lap and Seabiscuit had better movies but there was no horse that was considered faster than Superman and pretter than Muhammed Ali except for Secretariat. The race is on Youtube and you'll be amazed.

Ahhhh, it feels much better to let it out!

Man o'War is #1 in the Top 100 Thoroughbreds of the 20th Century, Secretariat is #2, War Admiral (sired by Man o'War) #13, Phar Lap #22, Seabiscuit (his grandsire was Man o'War) #25.

Another NZ bred but this time also NZ owned and trained horse that did well in the States was the standard bred harness racer, Cardigan Bay. He was the first standardbred to win $1,000,000 in stake money and even went on the Ed Sullivan Show.

He went on the Ed Sullivan show? Cool. They didn't put peanut butter in his upper lip to make him look like he was talking did they?

They did that to Mr. Ed "Wilbur, come here!"

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

yup. :) He was a great horse.
As far as Seabiscuit goes, I read the book "Come on Seabiscuit" as a young teen. I found the match race where he beat War Admiral amusing.
