Miss B? There seems to be a big kerfluffel going on elsewhere due to an old policy that is only now being enforced when it comes to off site freebies. I've been assuming that links to freebies on other sites are OK here and so have man other people. I hope it stays that way. Some products end up getting purchased by people who download a freebie and then decide to get related paid items.

Morning, Terre. (well, for me it's morning. lol)

What's going on at that site is pretty much standard fare for the current management. They've been slowly trying to encapsulate everything over there so that no one is ever exposed to anything outside of their site for kind of a while now. At least, that's what their recent policies all look like to me.

I can't see this place doing that; HW has always been really easy going about stuff like links to the resources and such from what I remember on the previous forum software...

The site I'm talking about is now the second (that I know of) to set this sort of thing. I hope it doesn't spread farther.
From what people who have accounts there are saying the excuse is that people might get malware from downloading something from a link to another site. The first place didn't use that excuse when they instituted their rule several years ago, at least not the I saw at the time.

I know Daz tried that a while ago, and it failed miserably... they revoked the policy as far as freebies went. This site we're talking about now had a similar fail with this policy in the past and ended up officially revoking or at least "officially forgetting" about that policy.

The current staff trying to enforce that nonsense is, from what I can tell, basically brand new to the site. She'll find out the hard way, and that's all I'll say. I'm in "sit back with popcorn and soda and enjoy the show" mode for that. The last time they did this, a lot of folks emptied out their freebies and galleries (myself included) and basically walked. So this will depend entirely on just how much backlash they push back with. I'm just going to wait and see what comes of it. It's not the first time they've tried it.

I can't see us doing that here; HW's always been really good about allowing external linking, and often to an extent that other places don't.

OK, I think I've missed a post, because I'm not sure what site you're talking about Terre, so not sure why you addressed the post at the top of the page to me.

Rendo recently decided it would be a bloody brilliant idea to shake the dust off the old "NO EXTERNAL LINKS!" policy for posting freebies, and the members over there are giving Hope all kinds of what-for over it.

Because I figured you had a better handle on what was and wasn't allowed here and if any changes were being thought of.

Daz backpedaled? That shows how much attention I've been paying to them. LOL
If I had an account at Rendo I'd break out the popcorn too. As it is this gives me one more reason to not get an account.

Ahhh, for some reason I thought you were responded to a post I had made earlier. Thanks for the clarification.

Ahhhh, yes. I remember all that, but since I don't "hang out" there much any more, and only visit when I'm looking for something specific in the store/wishlist, or the Blender forum, I didn't realize they had done that.

I don't "hang out" over there at all, either. I much prefer this place! :) But Wendy gave me a heads up about it because I'm a freebie maker, I took one look at the fires burning and just kind of chuckled and wandered off again. They'll find out the hard way... again. That's all. LOL

I've created separate scene files for each disciple in the Last Supper project, in hopes that the poses will save as .duf without the errors in positioning that happened to a couple during the original attempt. It's looking good so far. It may still require some tweaking by the user, but I'm pleased to get the set converted for DS.

Good luck with it, Sky. ;) Remember to save them out as Pose Presets, NOT Scene files, and it should work just fine.

I have to agree Seliah. Why would they allow us to post them in the Media section of the site, if they didn't want us to do that? I don't see that changing any time soon.

What I often wonder, though, is adding links in forum posts to freebies on other sites, whether the freebies belong to us, or someone else, is a problem for them here at the Hive.

Good question.
If it is something that you are certain is supposed to be free and the link goes to a file posted by the owner of the IP for the freebie it should be OK legally. If they have access to a copy write lawyer it might be a good idea to ask just to make sure, though.
ETA: Oh, perhaps I misunderstood. If you mean do they have any objection to off site links to feebies in the forums then that is what I was trying (clumsily) to ask.

Yeah. I see that, Terre. My previous comment still stands. So much for RDNA. Daz will take over, push out all the Poser product support no matter what any RDNA staff says, and promptly double prices on everything they can.

So much for what used to be another really nice site.

Not likely. G3's do NOT work in Poser without a whole ton of loopholes, Daz has publicly stated that they do not work even with the DSON converter and that they have NO plans to make them work.

I've seen Daz change over the last fifteen years. Sorry. I'm very cynical about this. Daz nowadays behaves like Walmart and Microsoft.
