Okay, Seliah, will do...just wanted to set it up right, and not throw a hammer in it before I even got started :) I slept nearly all day to "get my eyes back"...they had retreated and refused to come out until I got some sleep...haha.

Glad you had a good rest. I was out getting my hair done, and running errands today, so that's 3 hours less on the computer, and my eyes are very happy for it. ;)

Hi Miss B :) Know what you mean. I have to run out tomorrow morning for awhile, and possibly Saturday, not sure yet, so I get in my computer time when I can. However, it sure is nice to not have to look out of a window to see if it's okay to go outside...haha.

Oh I always check the forecast on Weather.com before I shut down for the night.

Yeah, I will not be around much Saturday OR Sunday... we have a lot of things going on both days, so I am likely to be out of the house more than in it. So I'm trying to get this package finished up tonight and hopefully submitted... because otherwise it will most likely be Monday at the earliest before it's been sent up to QA. LOL

Did you get that kitchen sink pipe fixed?

Yes. LOL. I had to cut about four inches of the pipe out and replace it entirely. It had a split right down the side. That piece is now pex, and not copper!! :roflmao:

That leaves us with only ONE more piece of plumbing that's still copper... but it's in a spot that I can't get to without help, so it's going to have to wait for my carpenter of a husband. It's just simply a two person job because there's a little bit of demolition that we have to do to get at the remaining length of copper.

I'm sure you'll be glad when that's over and done with.

Yeah. We're both anticipating that we might end up having to demo that whole wall, actually. And not directly related to the pipe, but that's the wall with the chimney in it... some genius decided it would be a great idea to run a main drain pipe down the wall next to the chimney... argh. So we may end up having to take the wall out and do some repair on the chimney as well as replacing that remaining run of copper with some pex, and possibly the main drain as well. Not only does the heat from the chimney have a tendency to do not-nice things to copper, but the main drain itself in that wall is still cast iron... annnnnd.... the house is 200 years old and we've already done some chimney repairs on the roof... and if you bump that wall just right you can hear debris/bricks roll around or sometimes fall inside of the wall. So we have to get at it soon and get it open to see what's going on in there and fix it.

So yeah. That is going to be probably next weekend. We can't do it this weekend because we just aren't going to be home much. And we'd rather not be doing it in the middle of winter in the first place. But it kind of does need to be addressed; we'll just have to set up some space/portable heaters to keep the area warm enough for mortar to set properly is all. I'd rather deal with it now than wait until it hits a crisis point, and we've been gathering materials to take care of it for a while.

It's kind of nice when you have two people who can swing a hammer and throw lumber in the house... you don't really need to hire contractors for much! About the only thing we HAVEN'T done ourselves is lay a foundation for a house. And my Bear has done that at work for commercial building plans, so that hardly even counts anymore either!

Yeah I would think heat from the chimney would play havoc on the copper, so better to get that replaced before there's a major problem.

It's great that you can work together and do much of the labor yourself. When I was younger I helped my mother knock out a wall, so I've done the sledge hammer thing...and the dust...haha. For awhile it looked like ground zero in the kitchen she wanted to remodel...but she had envisioned an "open concept plan" as they call it these days, for a combo kitchen, dining, and entertainment area...so we pounded it into being :) Her ideas were a little ahead of her time, since that was back in the late 70's.

Yep. It works for us. The cost of repairs comes down to.. materials and a weekend usually. ;) Not huge big contractor's fees. It's worth it to know how to do this stuff. My daughter got her first pair of steel toed boots at age 12 because she was working with us on various repair and rehab projects in our own house as well as our neighbor's various properties, and she needed to have the proper footwear for it. She actually painted the entire living room and kitchen area of one of our neighbor's properties that year, and when he finally got a tenant into the place, the guy was shocked to find out our girl had done it. He'd been wanting to know which company our friend had hired, and the guy just laughed at him. :)

So yeah. We've been doing this stuff for a lot of years. It's rare nowadays to run into something that we can't honestly fix ourselves... in which case we might hire someone to do it ONCE... and you can bet one or both of us hangs around nearby to see HOW it's done... might as well get the free lessons to go with the repair! LMAO That way we don't have to call someone again for another repair like it. ;)

I'm backing up all the stuff I downloaded last night so that I don't lose track of it...famous for doing that. Created a directory for the presets like you suggested Seliah, so have everything in place of my workstation, so that I may get to try it out possibly tomorrow night, or if not, Saturday night. This weekend will be unusually busy for me, and I have to mind getting enough rest, when "normal" people get their rest...haha. Sounds like you're extremely committed this weekend, between getting your release completed, and real life home stuff. So, we'll catch up to each other when we come up for air. Good luck with all your projects!

Have a good evening Miss B, and hello to Terre if you happen through. Good night all :)

My mother did the same thing, she always stayed around and observed when she had to get help fixing things...then she'd do it from then on. And yes, I was her carpenter's assistant...haha :)

Our holiday gifts to each other were hilarious sometimes....one year I gave her a nice aluminum step ladder because her wooden one was a piece of crap that leaned when you climbed on it....she was as excited with that than if I'd gotten her expensive clothing or jewelry :)

My mother grew up an tomboy orphan from the age of 10, so she sorta marched to a different drummer...but that was okay, I did my best to keep up with her.

One year she got a sledge hammer...it was Christmas, so I wrapped it to look like a candy cane :)

LOL Yup! My husband one year got me a great Dewalt socket set, because I kept stealing his to do stuff. :) The year before that, he replaced my hammer with something a little better than what I'd had; I was definitely needing a proper weighted one. My Bear swings a 22 ounce hammer... I can manage a 22oz, but I can work much longer if I'm swinging a 20, LOL. So He got me a 20 that year.

I grew up more than a little tomboyish myself... maybe that explains a lot, huh? LOL :)

Poor guy. People ask him what he gets his wife Christmas he just looks at them and goes "tools" and they go "..and she didn't skin you alive?" They're always flabberghasted to find out that I actually appreciate those types of gifts, and then they're just as shocked when he points out that I know how to use them...

Same for mom. When mom married the second time, he didn't have a clue how to use any kind of tool, and if he tried, he'd leave it outside, and by the time we tracked down where he had forgotten that it was located, it would be totally rusted. It would upset my mother so bad, not only was he not a handyman, but he was ruining her beloved tools. I don't know how many screwdriver sets I've gotten for her as replacements...takes all kinds to make a world, as they say.
