The Anchorage, Part 3

So you never offered a bid? You never know what kind of quote you'll get.

In the beginning of the domain wars, supposedly smart entrepreneurs were snapping up domains like DelMonte.com, coca-cola.com etc. The companies not knowing what to do were paying outlandish prices in the thousands of dollars just to get their name back. It's first come, first served, ya know. Then someone at DelMonte or coke got the idea of simply adding online "DelMonteonline"to their name then waited out the owner of the domain. We have a commentator here named Rachel Maddow who buys up domains of politicians. Typically right-wing politicians. Rachel is probably as LEFT WING (liberal) as one can get. She had a fun time when a US Senator made all the way to the presidential final...only to find that Rachel, his ideological opposite owned his name! She always said, "I am open to offers."

None came.

I'm with you Satira, I wouldn't sell any of mine either, not that anyone's ever asked.

I remember those domain wars Rob, and I think folks still do it a lot.

I personally always thought large companies should purchase every possible top rated TLD for their company name, i.e., .COM, .NET, and possibly .ORG, though most of those are used for actual "organizations", some of them governmental. I know individuals who do that, so why large companies don't do the same is beyond me, as they can certainly afford to do so.

I'd been contacted before by people wanting to buy my satira.com, but she was more persistent than the others.

It wasn't until I hung up that we started joking about it at work. $150,000 was one of the lower suggestions ;) I think we got up to like a million dollars or so.

I probably should have said ... well. I might consider selling for $150,000. I could survive three years on that :p

Well ... wait. probably only a year after taxes.

Start high, you can all ways lower the asking price but never raise it ;) Me I would have tried to get enough to live on for the rest of my days lol. That way I figure if the really want it they'll pay up and make it worth my hassle to move stuff or they will realize I am not keen to sell and bog off and leave me in peace :)

I wouldn't be surprised. Lebron James, Donald rump heck, most celebrities don't even own their own name. President Obama was quick enough to snag POTUS for his twitter account. However, back in the day, The most egregious use was Whitehouse.com vs Whitehouse.gov. If you typed .gov you got the white house's website. If you ended the url with .com...well, I can't mention it here. It seems even the government was delinquent in snagging all of the top level domain (TLD) names.

I also vote to start the bidding at $750, 000 then letting them haggle you down to a half million, plus 2 percent of their gross and they pay to move your domain.

Oh my goodness Lorraine, I totally forgot about that set, though I don't have all the pieces.

Nice job on the texturing. ;)

Looks good Lorraine :) I am having some fun playing with a new skin for Dawn, well its really more of a character but I don't have a morph as yet. Know how I want her to look, could probably do it too but none of my programs want to play nice right now so I settled for getting the skin just so :)

Thanks! It's such a cool house but its rather out of date textures means it doesn't come out to play very much anymore. I'm going for a Scandiwegian vibe :)
Are we playing the IKEA card once more? Either way, the props are sound so the retexturing really work!

I just checked. I have the dream kitchen, dream foyer, dream exterior and two dream roofs! This makes me want to join the PC club so I can pick up the rest for a $1.99 each. That's still the price when you are a PC member isn't it?

I don't know what the PC+ price is for that, as I let my membership lapse beginning of last year.

I just checked and I have the Great Room, the Breakfest Nook, and the Study, and a bunch of furniture and decor for each. I never got into the whole house, as I couldn't see doing any outdoor renders with it at the time. I like the individual rooms better.

Yep, Rob, it's still $1.99 per room and set of furniture. I have the whole kit and kaboodle excluding some eclectic mats. I may pick them up sometime but even they have dated. Moyra did a beautiful job of them but. And yes, Rob, I'm an Ikea fan :) Each time I go to Australia I arrive home with a suitcase full of it as does my sister. We want a store here in NZ, even one would be good!

Each individual room has part of the exterior, Miss B. There is no external shell, just a very lot of interlocking rooms. I downloaded all my zips again as the DS files have been upgraded to actual props and include cameras which was always the most difficult part of navigating through the house.

Yes, but I don't think I could really do a render from the outside of the Breakfast Nook. Don't recall what the outside of the Great Room looks like.

For me it would be more the outside of the whole house, which would make a nice scene, but I just wasn't interested, so never got all the rooms. I do have the Eclectic textures, and yes Moyra does/did great work. I remember when she was still doing web design, before she got into 3D, or at least before she gave up web design to work in 3D graphics full time. She had quite the vision for designing sites as well. The lady has talent.
