Sounds great Lorraine.

Meanwhile the day I get a new computer at work is closer. Just the 4th morning from now is when I get to start learning the new programs for my job. :)

The mess!!!

Have fun with that, Terre! New programs take me way longer to learn these days

Geeze, I don't envy you having to clean up that mess. Glad to hear you're having nice weather though.

Fortunately there was little damage, just stuff needing to be put back in place. It did show me however that I had got complacent about keeping things tied down, time to pick my feet up and get some keepers in place.

Lorraine, it takes me longer than days to learn a new program too, :)
Fortunately the warehouse is good a providing basic training and providing a manual with screen shots and such.

Lorraine, glad to hear that not much got broken.

I had the grandkids yesterday and last night. Will be going home later this afternoon...first chance to get on the computer since yesterday morning.

I feel like playing with Aiko 3 now I got Poser installed but that requires Aiko 3 to be installed.

Trying to install Photoshop but not the trial. I got a cereal at adobe. Or is it serial? Whatever it is I have to put it in then sign in?

What is cold brew coffee? There was just an add for it. Or is it ad?

Why is my battery bar red? Oh it says 16%. Why?

Mine goes red when it hits 15% it's a warning that it needs charging.

I'm sitting here debating uninstalling DS with a view to reinstalling everything and going back to the old way with content organised in the windows folders. I'm so over the mess DS has made of Categories since they started Daz Connect and I refuse to use Daz Connect. I'm happy using DIM.

Reinstalling could be a real pain but if the old way worked better for you it might be worth the time and effort.

I really liked how categories used to work...unfortunately Daz changed that functionality with more recent versions and it no longer works as nicely. You used to be able to mark new stuff with blue and then by clicking on the icon and organising it where it needed to go the blue disappeared. It used to show up on folders as well as the icons. Now it just shows up on the icons and for some reason stuff keeps coming back everytime you search. It drives me insane but if I go back to folders only my Poser items are in separate folders to my DS stuff and I like that in categories I can have it altogether. That said I have uninstalled everything as I'm going to shift it from the C drive to an external drive. That said I still haven't decided how I'm going to organise it when I reinstall it. I'm also upgrading to the newest version of DS. So I will see how that functions before I decide.

Can you compromise by making your own categories that are in folders that you assign? Or something like that?

Lots of noise out there. With the insulation and double paned windows we really don't have the kind of noise people expect from a metal roof. THe noise is the thunder, not rain banging on the roof.

Sounds noisy Terre...we have a metal roof on the back part of our house where we extended.

What you described is what I normally do. I create my own categories. I don't use the DS default categories at all.

I think I'm going to be really choosy about what I install and I may just go really slowly with the reinstallation while I play with it. I have saved my user data so if I find it I can always put it back where I had it if I save a copy somewhere, but I think I'm going to blow it away and begin again.

I have my DAZ studio runtime integrated nicely with my Poser runtime. The DIM has done a good job on the installs. I'm not trusting another installer from DAZ for a few more years. Not because I think DAZ will do a crummy job but because it always takes a few years for a new system to work out the kinks. Like Microsoft and Windows 10. Best to wait and see how the Poser and DS make nice with each other with the reorganization of Smith Micro. Besides, it's hard enough for me to find my DAZ content without the search. The search isn't bad, mind you and I do wish Poser had a built categorizer like DS. Still great minds don't always think alike. My idea of where space shuttles may differ with the nice people over at DAZ as to what goes where.

Do you still use categories with DS? I have been and have always sworn by it until recently. Anyway I updated DS I still haven't decided whether to do a full reinstallation of content but in DIM alone I have over 6000 items. I think I'm in a bit of funk at the moment. Was just looking at projects and can't decide which one to work on. I just feel the need to finish something at the moment.

I've never used DIM for installing, only downloading. I've always installed my products manually into DS 2, 3 and 4.0, as well as P5 (back in the day), P9 and PP11. It's the only way I can be sure they're going where I want them to go.

DIM allows you to set paths up to where you want to put things but if you want to rearrange them into separate runtimes you would need to change the installation paths each time.

I've decided I'll stick with categories but I may slowly begin to reinstall on a new drive which will give me access to the old content directory as well.

Oh I know you can set the path for each of the software Runtimes you have, be it DS, Poser, Carrara, Bryce, etc., I just get very particular about parts of a set, like Materials and such, as I don't necessarily want them in the Materials Library. Usually that's where I put them, but sometimes I prefer to have the Materials as a subfolder in the appropriate Character/Prop's folder. I don't think you can get that specific as far as installing with DIM. It basically will let you set up separate Runtimes, but not allow you to setup specific destinations for "parts" of a product's package.

I could be wrong, but never saw that while beta testing it, so there may have been more advanced changes to DIM's installation in the past couple of years I'm not aware of.

Oh fair enough...I move things around like that using categories so it's not normally an issue, my biggest bugbear is the way it marks new files at the moment. Categories allows me to create an instance of the file where ever I need it. So I do things like have all the hairs in one place but ordered by type with the materials inside their folders but I also have hairs that I've converted for Dawn inside Dawn's folder with the hair and also an instance of the materials there.
