• Welcome to the Community Forums at HiveWire 3D! Please note that the user name you choose for our forum will be displayed to the public. Our store was closed as January 4, 2021. You can find HiveWire 3D and Lisa's Botanicals products, as well as many of our Contributing Artists, at Renderosity. This thread lists where many are now selling their products. Renderosity is generously putting products which were purchased at HiveWire 3D and are now sold at their store into customer accounts by gifting them. This is not an overnight process so please be patient, if you have already emailed them about this. If you have NOT emailed them, please see the 2nd post in this thread for instructions on what you need to do

Since I have heard of LAMH before, still I've always thought of it as a DS product. Does LAMH work in Poser?

It is a DS product for the moment. I doubt that it will ever directly support Poser as a part of the Poser UI/Workflow, but I intend to create Poser compatible output from it at some point. The market and interest for Poser just never materialized.

Kendall

Yes, that makes sense about it not being part of the Poser UI/Workflow, but the ability to create Poser compatible output would be wonderful for Poser users who drool over the LAMH stuff ;)

You can definitely put me first on the list! :D

Well, I don't drool over it, but I'd certainly use it if it were available in Poser. I usually dismiss DS products out of hand. I was willing to give DS a shot Once Upon A Time, but either DS didn't work on my Mac or the DS product didn't have a mac version.

@eclark- I use Macs exclusively- have since the late 80s little box versions:) DS 4.9 runs GREAT on my macs. I did have some issues with some of the earlier versions of DS on my macs tho so I know where you are coming from. But 4.9 especially is a huge improvement.

Most I ever did was 35-50 or 60 wpm in my heyday, but usually on the lower end of that spectrum.
That's not all that bad Earl, as most word processors and/or secretaries were only expected to type around 60 wpm back in the day. It was a secretary's ability to take dictation at 80 wpm that was the big deal back then.

Since my name came around let me tell you that your assumptions and conspiracy theories are all wrong. I don't care at all about competition, nor I do my work to seek any kind of validation from users; last thing I'd do is asking a store to remove someone else products because they compete with mine. And stay assured that if one would even try that, DAZ would kindly show them the door, as it is supposed to be if you ask me.
About the game "wh0's the best animal modeler" I will leave that up to you and those that have the time and energy to play it. I just find it unfair to mock the ones that support or like competition better: regardless how biased one could be, else work and opinion should always be respected.

I'm trying to stay away from this.

FOR THE RECORD: I have a policy to NEVER publicly deride another person's work. It is what it is. If I have negative criticisms of any works, they will stay private. If I compare works/products I endeavor to only say which one I feel is "better".

I did not know about this subject until it was pointed out to me that I had been reported to somehow have magically managed to obtain enough power to dictate to Daz what they should do. TBH, it is likely that Daz doesn't really even realize that I exist other than as Alessandro's shadow.

Kendall

Peace to you both, Alessandro and Kendall.

In the three short years I've been part of the 3d community, I have only seen respect and professionalism in your forum threads and posts, as well as your products, many of which are in my runtime or my wishlist. Your willingness to help us use the products when we are clueless about what we're doing is also appreciated. And if Daz only sees you as Alessandro's shadow, Kendall, it is their loss.

As said already, it is human nature to speculate about what went wrong, and look for someone to blame. In this forum, some members are calling Daz unprofessional. In the now closed thread at Daz, some members there are calling Hivewire unprofessional. I doubt we will ever know the whole truth. But... I do believe it all comes down to an issue of mutual respect, mutual understanding and open communication; or more specifically, the lack of. And I doubt any PA could influence Daz's decision making one way or another, at least where another PA is concerned.

Because of times I have personally been on the receiving end of decisions by Daz that could potentially lead to legal troubles for them should anyone file a complaint with the FTC, I can't help but feel Daz is in the wrong here; that they think they are too important in the 3d hobbyist community to be accountable to anyone. And in the end, it doesn't really matter whether I am right or wrong; it affects my spending at Daz, which has decreased significantly, and continues to decline. In business, perceptions matter as much as reality. The more Daz comes across as a heartless, arrogant entity, the more it will cost them custom and customers.

Wild speculation is just that, and an effort to "make sense" of something that seems so nonsensical. It all comes back to Daz, though, and their perception of how things ought to be. It was Daz, after all, who ended the relationship, even after Hivewire tried to "mend fences," past and present.

Welcome to the Hive. (And having only joined the forum yesterday, it feels really weird saying that!)

I buy content from many sites and use a number of softwares, I am very sad to see how cutthroat it can really be, I guess I am a bit naive as far as the business side of these things being a hobbyist who just enjoys using 3D software and creating videos mostly.
I love all the animals and have most from DAZ, some from here a lot of rather scary ones from Content Paradise and a few from Renderosity, Philosophers egg and other sites, I basically buy what I like to render and what I can use in Carrara, Poser, iClone and DAZ studio to make my videos.
I appreciate the work of all the modellers riggers and texturers who create them.
I am trying to learn to model myself but seeing all the competitiveness and stuff it really puts me off ever considering selling anything or trying to even make money from any aspect of my hobby, having enabled and then mostly disabled monetisation through Google ADsense on most my videos due to all the issues involved I really think this stays a fun unpaid pastime for me and I leave the content creating to the thicker of skin, I shall continue to buy them as you guys churn them out!
Looking forward to the doggie, love the housecat.

No Earl, that's a grammar question, not a typo. Typos are misspellings or transpositions of letters. I'm famous for transpositions because I type at over 100 wpm, and often used to transpose certain sets of letters all the time. I'm better now that I'm retired, but back in the day, when I had to get a 100 page brief out the same day, I didn't do the proofreading. I just typed and had the professional proofreaders in our Word Processing department check for the typos.

Basically my problem is one hand is faster than the other, so some letters don't get typed in the order they should.

My mom was a career secretary (when Secretarial School and Pittman Shorthand were still going concerns) and could do 100 WPM. Hearing her do that on an IBM Selectric sounded like being in the middle of a machine gun battle!

Alessandro, please accept my sincere apology. I should not have brought your name into this.
I know everyone remarks on how generous you are with your time helping with LAMH issues, and how much everyone is looking forward to your new creatures-whatever they are going to be.
I sincerely hope I did not create any ill will between you and HW.

Let me just say as a Poser user, I would love to be able to use fur created with LAMH, and the hair too, in Poser.

That's a pretty good analogy James. ;)

I learned Pittman in high school, but switched to Gregg when I got to College, as it was easier for me to write with my hand problems. They didn't call it CTS back then, but I had been suffering with it for years by the time I graduated high school.

Welcome Wendy, I hope you enjoy it here and stick around. That is a nice list of software you work with, I use Poser and in the past Carrara which I still have installed but never use. It is mainly Poser at the moment with the occasional foray into Vue.

No problem at all Desertsilver, no ill will or grudge of any kind with HW, you or any folks around here. I just wanted to clarify my complete irrelevance in the facts that happened lately.
As an independent artist I always like to study and admire work done by all the folks I know, and as such I always appreciated Chris talents and efforts.

About Kendall, he is nobody's shadow, and certainly not mine. He is my friend and equal co-author of the LAMH plugin. Every line of code and efforts done along the way to develop the plugin has been done together as a team; and he has been always there to help users with issues and questions, even helping (for free) to develop commercial presets. Just wanted to clarify and give him the right and deserved credit.
Cheers.
