The Anchorage, Part 3

Lorraine

The Wicked Witch of the North
Yay! I have a temporarily tired kitty!

We just played a game of "catch the kibble." Where, I through a piece of kibble to her, and since it usually bounces, she has to chase it down to eat it.

I'm evil. Yes, I am. But it's good experience for her catching bugs, right?

Of course, she thinks it's a treat and not her kibble since I fill the empty treat container with her cat food. Then when I shake it, she comes running. Which I had to do this morning because she bolted out the door and was almost to the end of the hall before I even had a chance to turn around.

I do this with the pupdog I look after. She is mad for carrots and apples and I cut them up and fire them round the house. She loves it. She's even started catching them when I throw them straight to her. One happy tired dog then goes lay down and lets me get back to the puter ;)

I just found out 'New England' is not a state! I'm reading the latest Preston and Child 'Pendergast' novel which centres around New England but when I go to look for it, it's actually six states and now I don't know where I'm s'posed to be! More research needed :p

I've had a lettuce sandwich for dinner the last three nights. Other than tonight, I've had to pull lettuce out of my sandwich to give her.

Before I give her anything, I look to see if it's ok to give cats. It's amazing just how many human foods you should never give a cat!

Onion, Garlic, Chives - Bad. Can cause digestive upset / anemia.
Milk - Bad. Can cause digestive upset / diarrhea. Unless it's lactose free milk. Cats can be lactose intolerant too.
Alcohol - Bad. DUH!
Grapes and Raisins - Bad. Can cause kidney failure
Caffeine (chocolate, coffee, etc.) - Very bad. Can be fatal. Even without caffeine, chocolate can be lethal because of theobromine
Candy / Gum - Bad. The sweetener Xylitol affects insulin and can lead to liver failure
Fat Trimmings and Bones - Bad. Fat cooked and uncooked can cause intestinal upset with vomiting and diarrhea. Cats can choke on bones, bones can splinter and cause obstructions/lacerations of digestive system.

Well ... you get the idea.

However, broccoli as well as peeled apples are ok. So, next time I'm eating an apple or broccoli, I just might share them with her :p

That's right. New England is not a state

If it's Crimson Shore, it's in Massachusetts. (Exmouth is a fictional town north of Boston and Cape Ann)

It's about a six hour drive from me to Cape Ann.

That little itty bitty island just above the be in Here be Exmouth is Nantucket Island. Where I lived for about 10 months.

I kinda thought that, Pen, from what my firecracker of a daughter has been saying. And she has now gone into depression because autumn has arrived ;). All she can think about is that winter is that much closer
Autumn arrived and the weather got warmer...go figure we actually had a few days hit above 30

Oh heck yeah I did just go "Yuck" and "PATOOEY!!" and "EWW!"
Oh no Seliah is becoming predictable...lol. I love salmon too so I'm sure that I would love all the scrumptious food you're mentioning.

I was going to type something about politics but my brain just died so I'm not...rough day I had to evacuate the classroom due to a child's behaviour. So I'm going to finish catching up and then I'm going to sit and veg on the couch with a book. It's about all I'm good for tonight...

Only predictable to those who get to know me. ;) And I don't mind that at all.

Sounds like a good plan, Pen! Some down-time might be in order if you had that kind of a day. ;)

It was a busy day, Pen! Sorry about your classroom. What a pain! And sitting with a book is a very good plan.

Satira, that's cool! It is Crimson Shore, I picked it up in the Daily Deal for $1.70! NZ! So now I'm learning about the 1938 hurricane. I love history :) Did you like living on Nantucket?

Seliah, you crack me up  (I had left over hamburger and avo tonight. YUM!) ;)

That's the part I find so silly about many Americans thinking that New Mexico is part of Mexico. Those same people are well aware that New Jersey, New Hampshire, ans New York are in the US. Why they would think NM is PART of Mexico makes no sense at all.

Hi Terre, hi Jan :)

It's pretty silly all right, Terre. They know New England is not part of Great Britain, why would they think New Mexico is not part of the US.

All is well down here, Jan :)

Morning Terre and Jan. ;)

Honestly nothing surprises me anymore as far as people's lack of understanding geography. I've run into people in my own state who seem to think that Buffalo is part of Canada, for crying out loud!! LOL

Hey everyone and welcome, Mivan :)

I'd love if we had manatees or dugongs in NZ but you have to go north to the Pacific islands to find them. They are cute as buttons. We have to settle for our dolphin, orca and little blue penguins. But they are cute too :)

It's a windy cool day in Opua and oh yay, oh yay! autumn has arrived :) I was so over the heat and humidity and all round ickness. So nice to be able to cuddle under my blanket at night instead of laying there in a lather.

Just wait until you have manatees. We have a manatee county and a manatee town. Manatees, otherwise known as sea cows.
Welcome. :)
I doubt we will ever have manatees but I did get surprised a while back when a houseboat got trailered through town. No clue where it was going either.

ORCA!!! *sniff* Now you're making me homesick! LOL

Dang it. You can take the girl off the mountain, but you can't ever take the mountain out of the girl. No matter how long I've lived out here, I still miss those mountains. And the ocean...

Sea cow... that's for sure a good name for them!
