I envy you!
Other than these nasty things called Ticks, the lack of air conditioning in the hottest summer in a century (or so), and that Sushi and I were living in a tiny room in a converted barn, living on Nantucket Island was pretty cool. At least ... between the coldest and snowiest winter in a century (or so) and the onslaught of all the tourists for the summer. Like ... April and May.
Everyone I talked to during the winter said ... it never snows. But, my car was locked in ice for most of the winter. Which wasn't really a problem since I was living in a tiny one room cabin on the harbor during the winter that was only a few blocks from the store. Now ... for the summer, I moved out to the other end of the island, so my car was essential. Fortunately, it didn't snow during the summer
and of course ... everyone I talked to during the summer said ... it's never hot.
Population then was 8,000 full time residents on the island. Unfortunately, after summer, I needed to move out of the barn as it closes for the winter. Since I wasn't in the Artist in Residence program anymore, I couldn't move back to the cabins on the harbor. Even though the person in my previous position had been able to live in one of the cabins. Which meant, I was priced out of living on Nantucket Island. The cheapest room I would have been able to find was double (or more) what I was being paid. Which was supposed to be $10 an hour, but that was so not what I was ever paid.
Soo ... I left the island behind and moved to the fifth largest city in the US! /shudder
