The Anchorage, Part 3

That's way worse than me, Seliah! I can clearly see a good 30cm/1ft without mine. I do remember a long time ago, just after I turned 20, sitting in a bar while my boyfriend was cleaning my glasses for me. A large body loomed over me and said "I have reason to believe you are underage". My response "and who are you?". Mr Policeman was not amused though he did see the funny side when I put my glasses back on. And he was very disappointed when I pulled out my driver's license and proved I was legal ;)

If I don't have working glasses, I don't leave the house, because it's literally too dangerous for me. I'm legally blind without them. LOL I can see about a quarter of an inch from my eyes, and no further without my lenses. ;)
Yikes, not sure what I would do if I needed glasses for "seeing", and not just "reading/close work". Then again, I'm always looking over the top of my glasses when I'm not reading. Or I take my glasses off and leave them here on my desk when I get up to go to the kitchen, or out to the store. I do have a second pair of reading glasses in my purse, so I'm not really without. I just don't walk into walls . . . yet . . . so don't need distance glasses yet.

And I'm the complete opposite, I take my distance glasses off or peer over the top to read if I'm wearing them and not my readers. I get lots of funny comments when I do that in public as most people seem to be like you ;)

Lorraine... LMAO What can I say? Love it. I would have loved to have seen the look on his face!!

My lenses, I don't fool with. When I was working a a CNA, we had one dementia patient who insisted that my glasses were HERS. She yanked them off my face, and we COULD NOT get them back! I was walking into walls, tripping over carpet strips, everything. I actually ended up tumbling down half a flight of stairs because I couldn't see and didn't realize I was near the stairwell. I was banished to the nursing office that shift while a couple of folks tried to get my glasses back from Patient A. It took them until almost 11pm at night to get them back.... I spent five hours in the nursing office not allowed to move around because they were all terrified I was going to actually hurt myself. :roflmao:

I'm used to it. I've had glasses since I was toddler. I don't take them off, ever. If I'm doing anything overly active, I have a sport strap that fits tight against the back of my head that I use to make sure they don't disappear on me. But the only time they come off is when I go to bed, or a shower. And in both cases, they are left in easy hands' reach so that I can put them back on before ever trying to take even one step. ;)

It was soooo funny, and I was taking the mickey, not often you can do that to a large man in blue and get away with it ;)

Yikes, I've never had my glasses removed from me, that would suck! I have lost my glasses on numerous occasions, and I'm either looking for my readers wearing my distance, or hunting for my distance wearing my readers. And usually swearing my head off whilst so doing. Sans Souci has an insatiable appetite for my belongings :sneaky:

so funny Lorraine...my eyes are bad but not quite that bad...luckily one eye is better than the other.

My eyes have different prescriptions, and it is the change between the two that normally forces me to have an eyetest. And I have a very dominant right eye when not wearing glasses. When I'm wearing them, both eyes are equal.

Ahhh, I started wearing glasses in my early 20s, but only for astigmatic correction. My vision didn't actually start to change until my mid-40s, and strange as it may seem, the astigmatic correction lessened as I got older.

Glad it worked out safely, Lorraine. Yikes. >.<

I'm nearly as bad se you. -7.5 in my left eye and -8 in my right. Glasses are something I need for almost everything. If I need to read small print i bring it up close to my face and look over my glasses.

Seliah, Yipe! I'm not quite as bad as you so I would have realized I was near the stairs but still woldn't have been able to work.

I got my first glasses in 8th grade and really should have done so at least two years earlier but was too shy to mention not being able to read the blackboard in school. My eyes were 20/25 when I was in 2nd grade and slowly got worse.

Mine too...but one side of my glasses is way heavier than the other.

That's why I love the plastic lenses of today, the glass ones years ago used to drill holes in my nose and cheeks. But I don't think I've got as big a difference in my eyes as you have.

That would be scary Lorraine! Are parked boats required to keep a light on?

Well ... I suppose anchored boats would be more accurate than parked boats :p

Me too. Years ago my eye doctor said he only issues prescription for glass lenses if the patient can't afford plastic. Now there's only one company in the US that still makes glass lenses for eyeglasses.

Yes...plastic is wonderful. The outside edge on my left lense is 7 mm where on the other side it is about 3mm and that is plastic lenses. You can imagine how heavy glass ones used to be. My glasses were always lopsided back then.

I'M BACK!!!!!!! ~takes a deep breath of warm interweb air~

Hello, my friends, that was a long night and day! Note to self, always keep enough money on the phone for this NEVER to happen again!

Busy day, with a visit this arvo from a young American girl I've made friends with. Originally from California but has been travelling all over the world since she left home. Now living for a while on a boat near me. We had a lovely afternoon's girl time and she left wanting to do it again. Nice :)

Then it was the trip ashore to get my phone topup and water, then now a comfy sit in my rocker to talk to you fullas. And before my visitor arrived, was able to use the computer for an hour till the tide changed. A successful, pleasant day :)

Satira, moored boats like mine don't require mooring lights at night but anchored boats do. The biggest danger even when I'm wearing my glasses is running over a mooring buoy or floating log, they are practically invisible until almost upon them.

Hi Terre, hope you are well :) Yes, it was a really nice day. Just the right amount of socialising, a brisk walk at dusk, a glorious night sky coming back and a warm and cosy home this evening. I am a very lucky person :)
