Maybe it was a regional thing. I do know that for years when I was a kid, American Bandstand was produced in Philadelphia. Then it moved to Los Angeles. That might be when they dropped the lyrics.

Possibly, but I think I watched it some while it was in Philly, because the whole style of the show changed when it went to L.A.
