I understand that Tigers can purr as well. Lions don't, though.
Tigers don't purr, they chuff. The sound is similar, but purring is caused by a vibrating artery in a cat's chest (probably*) while chuffing is caused by breathing out through the lips. :)

*That's the leading theory, anyway. Scientists aren't 100% sure; it is different from chuffing though.

Hi. Lyne showed me this thread with the big cats and I love them! But I couldn't help chiming in for the yawns. I got a couple of great shots that I just had to share. Maybe they'll help or at least are a delight to see.
