Another glorious hot and sunny day here in Opua with a cooling breeze from the west, a perfect combo :)

A couple of photos from yesterday's jam and cream with scones

I had another visitor today, Tussock, the girl in the purple sweatshirt above, came over this arvo and we had a lovely afternoon baking afghans, doing some craft, and attempting to do some DAZing on my laptop. I say attempting because it was just so slow as to be useless. It wasn't until very much later I realised it was cos the laptop was on battery and the power saver was doing its job. Doh!!

Hi Terre and a good morning to you. 2am on Sunday here and all is well after a tsunami warning was cancelled, nothing quite like wondering if a wall of water is going to come visit to make you wake up and contemplate your mortality. Hope things are ok in Papua New Guinea but that was a big earthquake and I can't imagine they'll get off lightly. The Pacific plates are really having a good old rock'n'roll this year.

Good morning Terre and Lorraine!

Woke up to snow on the ground. Alexa just informed me it's 32F (aka 0C) and freezing rain ... and that we can expect more of the same all day. High will be 43!

Sooo glad I do not have to go out anywhere. Instead, I ordered a 15 pound bag of Acana for Tsuki, and a new UPS for me. I was rudely awakened this morning by the UPS squealing. Definitely time to replace it. It is 3 years old ... which is about how long the battery is expected to last.

I do so love being able to do all my purchasing online instead of braving the elements and fools on the road.

Warning ... I'm entering rant mode. Blame it on being freaking cold!

Not sure who are the worst though, those driving cars, those walking, or those riding bicycles! I like reading Treehugger, but I do get so annoyed at their holier than thou attitude regarding pedestrians and bicyclists who can do no wrong and drivers who are to blame for every accident that ever happens. Not like I ever see bicyclists riding home in the dimly lit streets with no lights. At least half the bicyclists that breeze past me (running red lights as they do so) have no lights ... either on their bike or on a helmet (if they are wearing a helmet). Another half of those have no reflectors either.

I subscribe to that very small group of people who believe one should stop, look both ways, and look again before crossing a street. The vast majority of pedestrians here absolutely refuse to look before crossing the street. They believe drivers won't give them the right of way if they stop and look. Yet ... how many times do we hear about a driver suddenly distracted by a child in the back seat. Not to mention the fools who fiddle with the radio as they are turning or are talking/texting on a phone. Add to that having a bike suddenly appearing beside you and not knowing whether the bicyclist intends to cut in front of you (if he's riding between the lanes) or plans to go straight across the intersection if he's to your left. Usually, there is one on either side of you ... even though Philly streets are really two narrow to begin with. Now add bicycles weaving between the cars and someone's going to die. Whether it's the bicyclist or the pedestrian not paying any attention.

I'm constantly amazed, not just at the lack of concern by pedestrians who seem to believe they will survive being hit by a ton or more of metal, but by the attitude of bicyclists who rather vigorously state that stop signs and red lights don't apply to them. Again ... a ton or more is going to leave nothing of either a bicycle or the rider. It's just freaking common sense that if you aren't protected by metal (and even if you are!), you need to be aggressive about your safety. Depending on everyone else watching out for you is foolish ... given so many people are only thinking about how quickly they can get where they are going or are fuming over something a boss, coworker, spouse, or even a stranger said or did.

A coworker is rather fond of saying ... darwinism at work. But, the last thing I want is to be the one who killed someone.

I don't text. I don't have kids in my car to distract me. I am constantly scanning traffic for someone ... anyone ... whether it's a fellow driver, a pedestrian, or a bicyclist not paying attention or potentially doing something unexpected (and absolutely stupid). While I do sometimes talk on the phone, it's always handsfree. I really should stop reading Treehugger :p And definitely, I shouldn't read the comments when they have an article about how drivers are to blame for everything bad in the world.

I mean ... it's not just people who drive who voted Trump. I'm sure quite a few people who ride public transportation or walk or commute to work or school on bikes also voted for Trump.

I've never subscribed to the all too common notion of occupying the same space in time as another, not in my boat and nor while I'm driving. It can be hazardous to your health and it's hell on the paintwork.

Pretty much the same here as well. Woke up around 6:00am and it was snowing. Woke up again around 9:30am and it was pouring rain. Now I can see snow and dripping rain drops hanging from the steps of the fire escape, which just might turn to icicles if it doesn't warm up some more.

Only place I'm going this afternoon is downstairs to participate in our co-op's holiday party in the lobby. I'm not wanting to go "out" either today.

This morning the forecast was for a high of 60 with a 50% chance of precipitation. Then temps would drop.
The high was actually 16 so the water that fell was NOT rain.

Well a good amount of the snow we got overnight has melted, and the rain washed a good amount of it away. It's warm enough that it's not going to freeze . . . at least not today. I can't vouch whether that'll hold true for tonight or tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm stuffed. I piled a nice plate full of food during our holiday party, and then finished it off with another plate full of dessert. ;) Luckily I brought a 24oz. bottle of water with me to wash it all down, as they usually only have wine or soda, and I don't do soda, and can't really have much wine because of meds I take. We had a nice turn out, and even the kids seemed to have a good time.

Heavy rain here last night followed by dense fog this morning. Walking on the beach reminded me of that film 'The Fog' where the ghost pirates returned to claim their revenge on the town. Being by the sea means very little snow, if any, but we have seen the situation where the coast has been clear while snow lay on the ground a couple of hundred yards inland during very cold weather. Ain't life fun? :)

That must have something to do with the water temp because here in the US snow does go all the way to the shore. At least in the mid to northern states anyway.

Sorry folks at your cold inclement weather. Also sorry to report that it's so warm here I may be forced to fix my swimming ladder and go for a dip.

Afternoon all...it's coolish here...our summer hasn't really arrived yet! Just got back from my granddaughters birthday party. She had a pamper party...they did nails, makeup, footspa and fashion parade(6-7 year olds) kind cute seeing them all with pink robes and their feet in the footspa, but the smell from the fumes set off my asthma.

Its a terrible person so you are Lorraine. :tantrum:

I love kids theme parties Pen. Lucy's five in February and we're planning to take her and her friends to Chester Zoo for her party which includes them getting to dress up as the animals they're going to meet. Great as long as they don't bring any 'pets' home with them! :)

Lorraine: Enjoy you warmth, :)

Pen: THat party sounds like the kids had a great time but I wouldn't have been able to handle the fues either.
