I am SO glad you're back!

All of my threads? The Dawn Super Hero thread by Ken1171, What's your favorite TV show, and others I was simply monitoring for information like the Loin cloth for Dusk..all gone!? I didn't do a clean of my computer that day! It reminds me of when I was monitoring and commenting on the Hivewire Horse Saddle thread. As far as I can tell, there is no evidence that I even existed. I had to re-register and everything!

I don't think it's a conspiracy. Fortunately I'm not paranoid even though the Man is out to get me. :cautious:

I've gotten notices for threads I posted in only once, so sometimes it just works and sometimes it doesn't. At least the admins here are not constantly messing with an already solid program.

I am still waiting to start the big second act. I have some real world stuff to do. I have to submit a promotion package and that will take most of my time for the next couple days. When everyone has gone through the first 9 chapters, I'll compile and start writing again.

I was just given an article about how Marvel and DC are suing a small publisher over the word "superhero". They both claim to co-own the rights to that word. I am guessing I will have to make some changes. Yikes!

That is the sickest thing I've ever heard. Should Paramount sue over the word "Starship"?

Are we banning words in the English language?

Here is the result of the lawsuit.

Bottom line : Keep plugging away

Real-life superhero? Marvel and DC comics back down against Londoner

This was an interesting read too The Superhero Trademark FAQ especially the bit that says if you want to sell a comic book called "Star Spangled Superhero Stories," you would not be able to. But if you want to refer to your characters as superheroes within the comic, you can do so.

"But if you want to refer to your characters as superheroes within the comic, you can do so. "

That's my in, right there. I don't use the word superhero in the title or the description.

The description only says my title character is trying to find the hero within....

And it does state comics and magazines, not a novel. I think I got all worked up for nothing.

Thank you all, once again...

Now we just need someone to go to court over the fact that Chris Tolkien was allowed to copy-write names his dad took from public domain sources. The names he used in his books for the dwarves and and some other characters hadn't been copy-writed by him because he knew the origins.

George Lucas DID try to copy-write hyperspace and a few other terms that had been used in SF for decades. Fortunately the judge he ended up with said no.

I met George once. He was quite gracious, so I'm quite let down by hearing that he wants to copyright words in the dictionary. I understand the copyright of some personal pronouns but do I have to worry about DC wanting to sue my parents and me since Robin was introduced in 1940, much earlier than I was born? (the rob in quietrob is for my name, Robin) How about Donald Trump wanting to copyright the phrase "You're Fyred!" See? I had to protect myself.

You know there is so much fan fiction out there, outright porn regarding use of their characters; I would think that unless I said, "I'm DC comics and this is Superman vs the Blob" I would say bugger off. Hmmm, I wonder if Bugger is copyrighted? Really, I think as long as you identify that it's fan fiction or a pure tribute with ZERO profit I would think they should just take it easy and make some more movies that DON'T match the comics they say they wish to protect. I'm probably wrong in wanting something so simple to preside but still...

Some companies take that attitude and some don't.
Star Wars fanfic was tolerated under the original owner. Disney has a history of jumping on anyone who uses their IPs without permission. Like that day care center that got sued for painting Mickey and others on their walls. Legally it's a matter of making sure that you retain control of the IP and fear that you will loose ownership.
This has left the Warsies I know in the uncomfortable position of being very happy with the direction of the new movies while being very worried about their art.

I suddenly had to look up Warsies! I have to admit to being a little less taken with the series since the last offering. Hopefully JJ has something fantastic in mind that will take that death and put the new story in a better place.

I haven't seen the new movie but friends who have say they've gone back to the original world rather than the ret-conned stuff of episodes I-III. that is what has them happy. Would make me happy to. Internal consistency is something I demand,

I am steady working on my promotion package. I have to have it done by the 19th, and since I want to concentrate on my novel, I am going to knock it out and then get back to what I really want to do. The promotion is important, but I have to feed the beast when it beckons. I am writing down bits and pieces to help me fill out the second act. I am trying hard to make it believable while at the same time maintaining the superhero (oops, can I say that?) edge.

And I liked the new Star Wars too, and I can't wait to see Luke Skywalker kicking butt again.
