So look at the UV map you have of that outfit, change one of the material zones to something flat colored and see what it does in poser. or better yet, find a checker board pattern, color on of the squares that you think is up, and apply it to the figure and you should be able to see what the map is doing (upside down, squashed)... That will help paint the pattern and also help you figure out how UV maps work.

I hope my advice is sound. I haven't had had any sleep in the last couple days.

Deep roots notebook
6. Blinn material A material that produces soft specular highlights, similar to those seen on dull plastic or metal surfaces. Now then let me fire up Poser and load Doctor Kelly and her jacket. By the way, Miss B. Within Poser, I collect jackets with a personal love for Bomber Jackets. It's what made me want to put the decal, logo, et al on this jacket. I do have crossdresser which would allow to get the Jacket for Dusk and use it for whatever figure I have in my runtime but I do prefer to use items made the figure. It keeps me from using the morph brush which is as much magic and intuition as it is knowledge and experience. Man, I wish my community college would have a class for Poser.

Now I as I understand it, Even though I do like the jacket the way it is...I want more detail. I must UV map the jacket (Already done by the designer).

2. Once UV'd, I must add the material I like (Yes I do have MAT POSE EDIT)

3. Create two image nodes. The first one being the wave logo, the second node...I'm not so sure. A white transparency of the jacket?

4. Blend the two nodes and plug each node into the diffuse channel. Why is the diffuse channel white? Remember there are no dumb questions so no face palming.

1. Get some sleep...on the plane.
2. "You should be able to see what the map is doing (upside down, squashed)...

My reply to the note number 2. "Wh-What?"

Sigh, I'm reminded of the commentator who remarked of Sarah Palin, "It's not that she doesn't know the answer. She doesn't understand the question." Right now, that would be me.

No. Transparency isn't what you are going for. The second image would be for the bump map. Bump maps work in gray scale. Black will give the illusion of a crease. White should give you a raised texture, and the shades of gray in between give you different levels of bump/displacement

You can see in the preview what your map is doing. Think back to the image that Miss B posted. When she applied the logo to your jacket, she placed it upside down because that is how the designer chose to flatten it. Not all maps do that. Some are laid out in the same orientation as the original model. But applying just the logo to the diffuse channel on the node, you will be able to see how it's going to sit on the finished product and make adjustments as necessary (translate and scale most likely).

test map.png

I created this 512x512 tile mosaic to test my models with. I made it a weave so that I could see if there is any stretching I may not have been able to see in Wings or 3DS Max.

quietrob I have a suggestion that might help.
Now and then pick a model and just play with the morph brush with it seeing what silliness you end up with for fun. Don't bother saving it unless you accidentally come up with something worth saving. Have fun, don't do anything serious. After a while you may start to get a feel for how it works and begin to get comfortable with it. If this does work it will open a lot of doors for you. My husband doesn't purchases clothing for the figures it's made for. He buys it with the intent of converting it to the figures he uses and has gotten to the point where he sometimes no longer even uses Xdresser or WW as a starting point. Just does the whole thing by hand.

Does your husband use DAZ or Poser?

Poser.
His main version at this time is PP2014.
He has always done a lot of work on converted clothing even when he used XD. He doesn't like the wrinkles and stretching that you find in an unadjusted conversion. That's part of why he isn't impressed with the Genesis auto fitted stuff. A form fitting tee shirt made for one gender will look wrong on the other gender even though it will fit.

It's so cool that you guys share that hobby. I couldn't get my wife interested in this if I tried. Rob and his girl share an anime passion. I am a little jealous of you guys.

So we can see when I apply the test map to my jumper that I have a few issues in the UV's. Those lines shouldn't be there in the thigh area, and there is some distortion around her breast area. Back to work on that....

I haven't done much with Poser myself but I do find seeing what others are doing with 3D programs interesting and have been listening to my husband long enough to be able to give helpful suggestions on rare occasions. I find it amusing to have helped people with quite a bit more experience a few times. :)

Nice! I was rather impressed with the lack of poke through using autofit back when it was vickie and aiko. It almost works with Genesis. But I'm more impressed that he has been able to do conversions by hand. I've had limited success. The grouping never was right. I've really only succeeded with Sadie and Nearme. When trying to put a male outfit on a female, it NEVER works out. If I wish to make a romantic scene where She is wearing HIS shirt, it never looked quite right. I like wrinkles but the wrinkles were in the wrong the places. Seeing your demo's regarding that weave has really opened my eyes.

This is true. While she's been able to help with Japanese translations what really surprised me was her ability to draw Sailor Moon like the manga artist. The version you see on TV is nothing like the original artist envisioned. It's not as slick, with HUGE eyes on each character and exaggerated limbs. It's really nice when she asks me if I want to attend the Anime Convention in Los Angeles. Silly girl. Wonderful girl. She hates waiting and hates crowds but still braves the 100,000 plus people that attend each year. The only thing she chides me on is the Disney version of stories told. For instance, the Japanese version of the Little Mermaid? It has a tragic ending yet remains one of her favorites. The Rose of Versailles also ends with the death of...well, I will just say again, it's a tragic ending. Having that someone to keep me from making each story a happy happy sunshine ending is a definite plus.

However, on the plus side for you, I KNOW you'll enjoy that Karaoke machine. Who doesn't like to sing?

The thing is, I know I told you I own a bar in the Philippines. That's where the karaoke machine is going. It will have a coin slot so customers pay per song. I will only be able to use it when I go there, and I don't go to the bar much. I'd rather be with my kids. So the karaoke machine is for helping her make money at the bar, it's not a home system by any means.

Rockket's idea is a great one.
As far as my husband's fitting clothing... He's been moding models for many years. Modeling from scratch he has problems with as box modeling just doesn't click in his mind and he's yet to find someone on a C4D or other site who will take a little time to explain the step he's missing when it comes to spline modeling. He has an old copy of Max he uses along with the tools in Poser and converts things made for V4 (among others) into things that fit his highly modded Posette. Or whomever else he wants to use. Most people aren't going to be doing the kind of conversions he is but we have friends who are getting into conversions also. V4 to Cookie of Melody is something I've seen a couple of them do a good bit of.

Jacket Decal wBackground.jpg
Now that I've done a little...I'll want to improve it and add more patches. In the end it was accomplished by adding the texture on the back and coloring the jacket to match the collar's code hex code. Critiques and Suggestions welcome.

Thank you Miss B! Thank you Rokket! Thank you Terre!
