The bird materials weren't tuned for iRay (which was still in the development phase when the product was released)... so that's probably part of the issue... You'll see much better results using 3D Delight. As part of my huge upgrade process I'll be working through the rest of the year, I will be adding iRay and Poser Superfly materials to all the sets (but that's over a 1,000 birds-- so it's going to take a while).

I thought that was partly the case, but also think that me not knowing iray well is also part of it :) I will use 3delight for the birds (and a few other models) depending of the other characters in the picture :) I am however delighted to hear that you will upgrade to iray materials too (and superfly too ofc) and I can totally understand it going to take some time. Just the thought it will happen means a lot, so big thanks Ken *gives warm hugs*

Lovely render Carola...I'm in the same boat and still trying to get a handle on Iray materials. phdubrov and Szark are very comfortable in Iray though and I know Szark visits the thread he might have some tips for you.

I'm just learning too but I've had luck with just using the Uber shader and adding the colour map to the "Glossy Colour" (doesn't always work but can make the colours richer).

Thank you everyone! I have had this image in my head for quite some time now, but I didn't have and owl yet, and didn't have the money to buy Ken's owl, so when it went on sale this week, I grabbed it. Got the eagle too. Can't wait to use him next. Ken, the details of your birds is "fantastic."
