Probably making myself seem dumb, but I tried to use ezskin 3 on dusk. People just say use the Dawn preset and I get that but how? I have studied the User Guide and I don't really understand how to make presets transfer to another figure or even how to transfer parts to my own presets. I know it is me because a lot of people just have no problem but I just don't get it.

On Page 5 of the User Manual:
<< Add figure
This command button associates the current figure with the definition showing in the ‘Use figure definition’ drop down box.
EZSkin will remember this association so that next time you use EZSkin with this figure it will automatically recognise the figure.

So if you load Dawn, then choose << Add figure, it will recognize that the Dawn preset can be used on Dusk as well.

Well, take a nice deep breath and breathe in the peaceful and friendly atmosphere that is our little world here in the sunshine state of Hivewire surrounded by friendly bees and oodles of honey :)
I made a couple of sketch-up models of a lang style behives. :) I will post them on my newbie thread lol

Edit: I did happen to go visit runtimedna, signed up and got some of their freebies when I learned about them. This whole merger thing has been good for me. I found you guys here! I have the warm fuzzy thing going on and hope to learn much more acquire, a few more items, and make my own in various formats in time. :)

So here's a picture of my EzSkin3 window (I've already set up Dusk, but I'm terrible at explaining things without visuals).

Near the top Where it says Type: you'll notice mine says Dawn. Yours probably says something unsupported. Click on the Editor button next to type. Another window will pop up, and it at the top is a drop down that says Use Figure Definition.
If you click on that, you should find Dawn in there. Select Dawn, click the Add Figure button next to it, and then Okay. After that it should use the same definitions for Dusk as are included for Dawn.

And don't worry about the question. I have some scripts I'd probably use a lot more, if I actually asked someone how to use them. Poser scripts are a strange world, because you have one person, writing something they want to be flexible, for a program they didn't make, and that someone else is using.

I finally made it to the end of this thread. I am new here on Hivewire, everyone is great. I like the mom and pop family feel. Even though I am an adult, I think. I like fun and humor though. :D I really don't venture down that "adult road". I don't mind respectful nudes. I do have to look at nude characters when dressing them. lol

I really have no comments about the merger. I don't know either place very well, but I do know a bit about working for big Corporations and in the end..well I think things do not fair for either side if bad choices are made. I have read some on the Daz forum about the merger.

So far peeps on the daz forums have been helpful. I have so much to learn about different things. Now I have more items to add to my wishlist and things to doodle with finding Hivewire. I think someone should create a cash tree for all of us to have and enjoy. LOL Eventually, I am sure I will have favorite characters and such. :)

I have difficulty sometimes grasping certain software, etc. Most times I have to just put it away and wait for an epiphany to happen for the lack of help and/or hostility on other forums, not Daz or Hivewire though. I love tuts of all types and explanations that look at things in a different view. Everyone does not have the same learning process or skills even. Some don't have real good teaching skills even if they know the stuff. I had science profs in college that way. Most of us students were completely lost.

I hope Daz does work on Bryce, hexagon, and Carrara. I own the first two and debating on Carrara, but don't want to pay $65 on sale for something they might just drop the ball on for sure.

I do hope all works out for everyone in the end and all artists great and small are able to create their works. :D

Welcome Lianam :) Know what you mean about waiting on an epiphany to get through the learning process sometimes...was exactly the same for me. I must say there is more willingness to share information here on Hivewire than any other place that I've been in the 10 years I've been doing this. That helps so much, and you feel more of a build in momentum with the learning process.

I agree, hope Carrara does not get abandoned. I got the last Pro 8.5 upgrade for under $30 so I jumped on it. It really is similar in function to Vue, without the mounting price of nearly annual upgrades. For some reason, I found the modeler in Carrara to be right up my alley, more intuitive.

You're right, we're all different, different skills, different things we prefer...so learning is the same, with individual pace. And unfortunately, sometimes knowing a thing does not necessarily mean we can explain it to others well. If Seliah stops by this thread, she's a good teacher....she knows how to process through the steps, not leaving anything out, and sharing experiences and pitfalls to prevent problems.

Again, a warm welcome, and hope you find a comfortable home here at Hivewire :)

Thanks Skylab. I think I will like it here a lot. :) I get warm fuzzies so far.

Why I am leaning toward Carrara just for what you said up there. I have a feeling about it. I have used sketch-up in the past and caught on pretty quickly to it. If Carrara is as intuitive as Sketch-up was for me. Oooooo.....Is my thoughts. :) I have doodled a bit in Blender the upgraded version after 2.5, 2.6 and beyond I believe are way better. At the horror of a good friend online who was helping me learn I tore the UI apart so to speak to learn it. hehe The older versions were just a struggle. *groans* My hang up is uv maps and most possibly because I got use to sketch-ups straight forward approach to appling textures. I have options anyways. :)

Hey Lianam, I also use Blender, and have been using it for quite a while. We have a Blender subforum in the Software Discussion forum, and you'll find a post at the top with my long list of Blender tutorials, forums, and other goodies. I keep adding to it as I find something of interest, or if one of our members alerts me to something I haven't come across as yet. Feel free to check it out. ;)

Carrara is definitely comfortable in terms of navigation. However, Blender is a powerful tool for modeling and animation, and it's free. The new interface is much improved over the original...I remember the first time I saw the old interface, my thoughts were "you've got to be kidding"...haha. If you're able to master Blender, it's time well spent. Again, Seliah does work in Blender, so you know she has to have patience. She happens to like keyboard shortcuts. I prefer a mouse operated UI. And I think that's the biggest difference...which one appeals to you for workflow.

Thanks to you both. I will definitely check it out. I was starting to venture that way. :)
I can relate to the older blender UI. LOL eck! I am patient. I have been trying to learn Blender for about 2 years now when I get the chance. It's an on/off thing. Once I get my pc upgraded and kick the uvs in the butt. I should be on my way. I hope. :)

Edit: Found Blender forum. Katbits is a friend of mine and who has tried to help me learn. LOL

Yes, I started with Blender 2.4x (can't recall the exact version), and had version 2.47 for a long time before they upgraded the UI with version 2.52. It takes time, but once you feel comfortable with it, I think you'll like it. I happen to like doing UV mapping in Blender. ;)

Well...there you go Lianam...see how quickly you connected with some help. If I were you, and had the ability, there seems to be more future with Blender. Good luck with it :)

Blender rocks once you get the hang of all the hot keys. And it packs a punch. It does quite a bit for an open source program...

I've been over to the Runtime forum and they locked the thread where Netherworks announced that he is coming to Hivewire a few days ago. I kind of knew why but Traveler apparently felt the need to explain, which now has me wondering about why they actually locked the thread.

I can see what Traveler was saying but as they have removed the post that they felt were inappropriate I don't see why the thread needed to be locked. Approaching it from a different view I can well understand why Daz would not want Hivewire3D to get publicity on a forum that they own.

That's what I was thinking,SS well. If you're going to delete the offending posts why lock the thread?

It is a bit of a mystery. It must be disheartening though to see some vendors drift away and forum participants leave hand over fist. Just shows, it can take years to build something worthwhile and weeks for it to crumble to dust.
