Glad Winston is decycloned Lorraine...
My aunt, my mum's sister, used to go out into thunderstorms and stand with arms outstretched getting 'recharged'. My opinion, even as a child, was that her sheep had left the top paddock.
I used to like being outside in a thunderstorm as a child. If I was walking home from school and it started raining I would take my shoes and socks off and walk home barefoot...

But, but...I've seen Aussie thunderstorms! They make ours look weak and enfeebled, like the thunderstorm you're having when you're not having an Aussie one...hailstones as big as small cars, deluges that mimic the biblical flood, lightening that makes holes in the ground you can BURY a small car in ~totters off for a wee lay down~

And ... I'm back.

Both Tsuki and I are still freaking out of course.

At least I was awake. Hate when I'm sound asleep and the alarm goes off. Can't ever get back to sleep after that.

So anyway. We not only had a thunderstorm that lasted hours and hours last night, but we had tornado warnings. My cell phone started screaming. Apparently, the update the other day included new emergency warnings where the cell phone now screams and screams and screams until you say OK! I hear you!

Not sure whether or not I like that. The previous alert was just a couple tones.

That is scary, Satira, both the fire alarm and the weather. We may have cyclones and we may have thunderstorms but tornados are very few and far between. Can't even remember the last time...no I tell a lie, it was a couple or three years ago in Auckland and it was a bad one, several people killed. But nothing since.

And I really don't like the sound of your phone! That is something I hope no one tries to bring in here.

IMO, that is crossing a line with the phones. But then I'm old school and believe in NOT deliberately fear-mongering, which is what those insistent alarms are in my book. If it were my phone I would probably disable or unisntall the dang alarm in the first place if I was able to.

Glad everything is okay, though...

Certainly, the alert can be disabled. But, I want the alert. I just want it to be a couple tones, instead of the constant siren.

Both my phone and my Kindle just had OS updates. I'm not at all happy with the appearance changes ... particularly with the Kindle. I don't particularly like change.

At least they did fix the volume with the Kindle. A previous update a couple years ago resulted in the volume being reduced a lot. Which made watching some shows a bit harder since you could barely hear what people were saying.

Commercials though weren't affected by that. Probably because most commercials are double the volume of the shows.

I'm so glad I turn my phone off when I go to sleep. I even have the ringer turned off on the extension of my home digital phone in the bedroom. Also have the in-call sound turned down so they don't wake me up very early in the morning trying to sell me something I'm not interested in. ~sheesh~

I usually let the home phone ring until the answering device picks up. Most of those unsolicited calls hang up then, so I don't have to deal with them. Unfortunately, I can't do that when I'm still in bed, and they decide to leave a recorded message. I really hate those! ~grumble, grumble~

When I no longer work, I could probably turn my phone off. NOT! But I use it as my alarm. Since I can pick the alarm sound, I'm not nearly as grumpy in the morning as using the typical alarm clock or a clock radio. I seriously hate listening to "personalities" in the morning.

LOL. You sound like me. I hated, hated, HATED alarm clocks all the years I was working outside the home. They jarred me awake, and let me tell you, PTSD + sudden loud obnoxious noises out of nowhere = UGLY.

It was NOT pretty. ;)

Nowadays I don't need the dang alarm clock. I go to bed when I'm tired, and you could set your watch to the six hour mark for when I will wake up again - unless, and ONLY unless I've been awake for several days, at which point I sleep the sleep of the dead and anything that wakes me up better involve someone bleeding profusely or else! :roflmao:

I guess I'm so used to the clock radio from all the years I used it when I was working, and the only time I hear "personalities" is usually on Sundays when I have to get up early to get ready for the gym. I usually have it on low volume, only just enough to wake me, though I'm usually not in a deep sleep by then.

Having gotten to know you better here at the Hive Seliah, I can actually picture that. :D
