Hey Miss B, thanks for responding
I was only asking because I remember you had visited the thread at RDNA and would know what I was trying to describe. I didn't want to get mid stream and find out it wasn't going to work, and just end up creating a mess for someone to clean up later...haha. Mostly just wanted the sorted categories to remain intact and archived, without having to completely start over. Anyway, it worked out...it's posted, basically no frills lists, but the info is nevertheless all there. I just didn't want any changes at RDNA forum to result in loss of the thing altogether. I've been through that with DAZ before, don't need a repeat performance...haha. In glancing through the RDNA Merger thread, someone stated that their post had been removed...not sure if they meant RDNA or at DAZ...immediate loss of the Deep Freeze at RDNA was enough to convince me that new management was taking over, and it was time to retreat...haha.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to do at this point. After two days of reading folks' very heated opinions toward DAZ and DS, seems like a poor time for me to be releasing DS poses...it could be misread as some sort of bowing and tail-kissing on my part. It wouldn't be my intention of course, just happened to be bad timing, launching into crossover work right before the controversial merger announcement. Is this the point at which I join all the other Poser users, sitting up on the porch, grumbling to themselves, watching the grass grow...haha. Psychological peer pressure goes both ways I guess. One thing for sure....if we do nothing....then we'll be at the same place this time next year...and the year after that. I really feel for the admin's at RDNA....server being overwhelmed by downloading, folks pulling out of the galleries...and they're having to stomp out fires left and right. I decided the most sensible thing to do, in order to ensure that I already have everything backed up in my RDNA account, is I copied and pasted the text of my account list in a .doc, and instead of re-downloading stuff I don't need, I'm going down the list, item by item, and comparing it to what I have in my archive. Whether downloading or doing it by list, you still have to deal with things item by item...it's just that this way, it's not contributing to the server overload problem, while at the same time making sure I have everything. It took over an hour to just copy the short account list, the server was so slammed.
One post I noticed in the Merger thread mentioned some of the concerns I've had this past year...that is, if Adobe and Microsoft ever decide to be players in the 3D community (through the 3D gaming market), then DAZ will meet its match in terms of being swallowed up. While we're all slapping at each other over STORE WARS, the real future of 3D, that of the operating system upon which the software has to be built, may leave our programs and all our "stuff" obsolete. Vendors and those depending upon 3D for a living need to keep their eyes on the ball...that is, short term goals that meet their needs say for the next five years, but then also long term goals.
I loved the example in the merger thread of the shoe store...selling out of size 8's, but being unable to order re-stock of any size 8's, as management said size 8 did not sell...haha. The real reason they didn't sell, of course, being they never had enough in stock to satisfy the customers wanting size 8...so it was a problematic self-fulfilling cycle that produced skewed sales figuues. I've always thought that was skewed logic behind "sex sells". It sells when you draw customer's who want it...it all has to do with presentation. We've got to admit, DAZ has proven that....I can remember when their home page was just about as bad as Rendo. They cleaned up their act, changed their image, and sure enough, they found a market with schools, and with a younger group of hobbyists as well as professionals, all because they broadened their potential customer base. You can't sell sweaters at the beach...just doesn't work. And that's why folks can't find buyers for "regular" clothing products in the middle of a soft porn shop...may as well say it, because it's true. People do not go to the beach to buy a sweater...and they do not go to a place where soft porn is displayed openly in the front window to buy clothes for their kids, etc. We would think it was ridiculous, in real life, if we saw someone taking a child into a place like that in order to shop. And yet we lose sight of that online, especially when it is cloaked as "artistic freedom". We're not realizing that there are folks who take one look at it, and flee...the same way they'd flee if they realized they were walking down a street being worked by prostitutes. By the way, that sells too...haha. So we become like the shoe store, in a hopeless cycle of ignorance, convincing ourselves that size 8's just don't sell here....when in reality, we've lost far more customers with our reputation. It's all coming back to bite the 3D community now. Hivewire has very wisely embraced a moderate position on this type of thing...and in time I think they'll reap the benefits of having done so. It takes a long time to repair reputation, or as the saying goes, it takes awhile to turn a big boat around. And just in case you're thinking that we as a community don't have a reputation, just what do you suppose breast enlargement and jiggle morphs are for, and realistic enlargement and erection for gens, and tongue morphs, and bondage-ware...artistic freedom...c'mon, give me a break...walks like it, talks like it...haha.
