I got Hexagon on a big sale back in the PC days too...but I'm always on the watch for folks who would like to try stuff when its offered free. And I became so accustomed to hearing people be so negative about lack of updates, it never occurred to me to re-download it and try the updated version....until I saw it in a forum post.

Vue does have some built in content, if you start at the Esprit level. The free and entry level versions require some content purchases in order to really get benefit of the software. I think I went as far as the Studio version, which was the next after Esprit, with version 6...which is fairly dated now. That's another problem I had with Vue...they upgraded almost each year, so there was no way one could make it to the Pro level upgrade path without really investing some major money rapidily. So every year you'd slide back down to entry level, and I just could not justify doing that, though I liked the software renders and user interface. There were some things that I had purchased, like middle eastern houses, specialty items...and every time the software upgraded to another level, all the models had to be assigned to the new version. It just got crazy...it was almost as bad as Reallusion. It was frustrating because if I could have made it to Pro, I could have exported those models out into .obj and they would have been useful in Poser...but I never made it that far. So I finally said...you know what...goodbye....I like the software, but goodbye....I'll just have to find another way to do the same thing. DAZ has been well on the way to painting themselves into that same corner with exclusive content....and many people have consequently said, you know what...goodbye...this isn't worth throwing a fortune at. If you start adding up what you've spent over a 10+ period, it gets scary, and it motivates one to learn to create their content, and make the most of the software they already have. There comes a time when 3D content providers can overplay their hand...and we're seeing a lot of stores sadly closing partly due to this....like how many skimpy Vicky outfits did they really think they were going to be able to sell before that ship had finally sailed, especially with XD, and Poser's fitting capabilities. And buying into the "sex sells" worked for a flash-in-the-pan selling spree...but now we're living with the reputation that DAZ Studio, and to some degree Poser, is perceived as being used for what those outside of 3D view as entry level porn. That's why DAZ had to scramble to do damage control in order to market to schools and universities. In the real world folks still get prosecuted for such, especially now.

So...it's a good time to accumulate as many low cost, or free, tools as possible...because one never knows if it might be needed later. I feel that Hivewire is being very, very wise right now...to focus on excellent quality animals. Now that Content Paradise is closing, there will be a void in the market for animals...both realistic and toon.

Vue had what they said was a hacking attack about a year or so ago and never came back up after announcing that from what a couple of friends who have the program said.
One of the friends who has it is Nanobot and she got to talk with one of the coders for Skyrim a year or so ago and got told they did that game in Vue.

Well, that explains what happened with Vue's content site, Cornucopia...must have happened around the same time, or after Hivewire had something similar happen.

Wouldn't surprise me. I got interested in Bryce because the original Myst and Riven were created in Bryce. Later versions, and newer games in that series were created with Maya.

Both Nan and Epi have higher end versions of Vue and now aren't sure what will happen. I think both are hoping Cornucopia will come back up but after this long that looks unlikely.

From what I've heard I can see Myst having been done in Bryce. It was (and still is) a good program for it's time back then and everyone I know who got Myst talked about how beautiful it was.

Well it was certainly different from any game I'd ever played, so I was fascinated by it, and I wanted to know how they did it.

Two more oldies...this time V4. When she was first released I enjoyed playing with the dial-spun facial morphs. The first one is really old...December 2006, nearly 12 years ago, and obviously poorly lit in an early version of DAZ Studio. It's of a keyboardist and singer I used to work with, who passed years ago with MS...bright-spirited, good sense of humor, and loved to do impressions of famous singers. This was an attempt at a 3D character of her, which she liked at the time.

And this one was about five years ago...an attempt at Mona, since I'd already done a Bong and Slon version of her, I wondered if I could attempt the real thing. This was one of my unfinished projects that I worked on between doing pose sets. It needed more work on the mouth, and the eyes needed to be opened up some, but it was coming along. I think I remember seeing this in my saved scenes archive, so I may work on this some more. If I'm not mistaken, Adam Thwaites did a V4 Mona morph with his Mona Lisa 3D set if anyone is interested in this sort of thing. I was just wanting to attempt a dial-spun likeness on my own, like sculpting in clay, and I enjoy working with classic themes.

There used to be a guy on the DAZ forum...I think he called himself CD. I wonder whatever happened to him, or if he's still there...he did some amazing facial morphs, and seeing his work on the forum inspired me to try doing dial-spun characters with Hein, and from there it sort of exploded with all kinds of Nursoda characters and a few done with Apollo.

This WIP render of Hein was done in February 2011...hard to believe it was over seven years ago. This was a side view to test work being done in Poser 2010 hair room.

After seeing this YouTube beer commercial, I couldn't resist doing a similarly-themed Hein render :)

Hey Stezza! I was hoping you'd post some of your stuff from back then....you did some good Nursoda character renders that folks would enjoy seeing again. Please post some more...we'd love to see them :)

Good morning everyone :)

If it's true that one learns from one's mistakes, then I should be an encyclopedia by now...haha. When learning the Poser hair room, you have to keep your sense of humor. Occasionally you'll get results that will help that along. When I saw this Hein looking back at me, I wasn't sure whether to laugh, or to run. One thing that's a bit different on this stroll down memory lane is, I'm showing a few of these renders full size, as I saw them...for the full impact. We could call this static electricity, or a bad hair day :)
