The Anchorage, Part 3

300k winds?!? That's like 180+ mph???

I can't even imagine that.
Eeep!
Twice I've seen winds that had gusts nearly that high. In one case several years ago when we got one of those here on the High Plains what happened in the Rio Grande valley was sustained winds of 150mph. One of the schools in Albuquerque had it's roof blown off.

We don't have hurricanes blow through here that often, but that's about the only time we get really high wind mph.

In 28 years in this town I've only seen winds that bad twice. Storms that have 40+winds with gusts higher happen several times a year.

I was checking Weather.com for tomorrow's weather, and they had it there on the front page of their site. I didn't follow any of the links, but it sounded devastating.

Just been checking my news site. No more deaths reported, thank goodness, but yes, much devastation. Houses wrecked, trees down, power out, plantation of bananas destroyed. One woman closeted herself and her family in a wardrobe as her house was destroyed around them. She tweeted what was happening as the cyclone went through.

And Winston has headed off to sea again, still Cat 5. He is a monster. Doesn't know when to stop! We should know by tomorrow if he's coming back for another crack at us.

I would think hitting landfall would slow him down a bit. I guess not if he's still Cat 5

All the pundits were expecting him to drop down to a Cat 4 quite quickly after he made landfall but not our Winston, oh no, not he! He wants to rumpus around some more and give me a sleepless night.

Hi Terre, Miss B :) Things are very well here, my dog let me sleep in, DS hasn't crashed yet, and the phone has only rung twice with people looking for my friends...not a bad start to the housesit :)

It's brilliantly fine today and HOT! The poor dog, who by the by looks more sheep than dog at the mo, is so hot and panting all the time. She does not cope very well with summer and with the woolly coat she is carrying she is in a bad way. Her mum and dad couldn't get her into the groomer till next week so suffer she must.

Oh I don't envy her. I always cut my hair real short beginning of the summer, because I absolutely hate feeling the hair on my neck and shoulders in the heat, and wearing it up in a ponytail for too long gives me a headache.

Then I let it grow out for the cooler months.

You should have seen me in the head on Saturday, Miss B, hacking at the hair round my neck and throwing it out the porthole! I now look slightly...motheaten...but at least I'm not cursing and swearing at the heat ;)

You threw the hair out the porthole???? I can just see some person seeing it floating by while taking a swim, and wondering where the heck it came from.
