The Anchorage, Part 3

Hear hear. I have been given some places to try and get some help on getting the landlady to do some thing about the lack of insulation and heating so will see what that brings.

Here in the sunny south, we're already in the 90s most days and now the storms which build up with the intense heat. We have intense, fast moving lightening storms, that just leave high humidity behind in the 90 degree sun. Well, and a few downed trees from wind bursts.......
My sympathies to both of you.
We haven't had many 90+ days yet here on the High Plains but it won't be long before most days are at least 100F.

Hey all! A gloomy day in Opua, but not very cold so I'll takes what I gets. We had an Antarctic blast up our chuff for a couple of days, the heater going the whole time and turned up a couple of notches, and me saying "the winterless North, my arse!". I shudder at the memories of how I used to live pre fire...I'm surprised I didn't get hypothermia. I hope its warmed up a bit for you, Dreamer and cooled off for you Northerners :inverted:

Its a bit warmer here today, no frosts but still not tropical. I was able to turn the heater right down to just keep the chill off

Our 50% chance for rain on Monday night didn't happen. Instead we got a few hours of very light rain Tuesday morning when the chance was supposed to be 0%.

I hop you Southerners are warm enough.

Myth, what do you call a scorcher? I suspect it's a bit different from my definition.

A scorcher down under is a damn hot day, Terre, one that makes you say "hell, its hot!" The heat depends on latitude and country ;)

As Lorraine says Terre, "The heat depends on latitude and country"! Around here the tongue-in-cheek answer is the rain gets warm! Otherwise it's when the weather is warm enough to make you feel uncomfortable to go out wearing a coat or anything much heavier than a tee-shirt. There are even rumours that some of our senior citizens have been known to stop wearing their string vests but this is so far unconfirmed! Other signs include the sudden appearance of very scantily-clad young ladies on the beaches! (THINKS! Must remember to make sure my camera batteries are fully charged up for my walk along the prom tomorrow!) and, in the younger age groups, a sudden desire to devour vast quantities of ice cream! Add a tendency to break out into a sweat at the slightest excuse, helped by the average humidity in the mid eighties suddenly heading for the high nineties and you pretty much have it! One the other hand the sea mists as temperatures increase can be quite pretty and, quite frankly, the increased cases of sun stroke amongst those who believe they know it all and ignore the warnings can be quite hilarious. Its also fun to watch those normally pasty-white bodies slowly turn that angry pink shade with the onset of sunburn! The reason most residents wear hats in summer is not because Morecambe has an unusually large population of seagulls despite what the detractors say! Have fun! :)

OK, uhhhhhh, what is "de-sheeped"? Considering you live on a boat, I can't even BEGIN to think what that could mean.

Oh, and I expressed my Birthday Wishes before I went to sleep last night. ;)

The Birthday Thread!

I have no idea what de-sheeped means but I'll guess and say you got a hair cut.

I'm sorry I missed your birthday, Lorraine. I didn't know!! Way to make it through another year!

Thank you! I've had a great day and got de-sheeped, couldn't be better :)

Why have I got this image in my head of Lorraine clad in a skimpy chiton being chased around the landscape by a bunch of young, muscle-bound sheep farmers with oiled bodies, wearing khaki speedo's and hats with dangly corks on waving their shears in the air?

THINKS! Early night for you, my lad!

Lorraine:Happy belated Birthday!

Myth: LOL
Also your "scorcher" almost sounds pleasant. Of course I haven't lived near the sea in almost 48 years so I've kind of forgotten what the humidity is like. I suspect that, for you, today here would have had an insanely high air temp (high was projected to be 96F but I can't get TWC to open) with nonexistent (16%) humidity.
