I remember every year, the little school kit we'd buy would have one of these. We never used them. Remember eraser smell? ^.^

My dad used to do taxes using that and an abacus, though. My brother and I used the abacus as a skateboard (in the time before skateboards. Maybe we invented them???). Dad wasn't happy with the creativity, though.
Skateboards originated in the 1940s. We used to take our old roller skates and nail them to two by fours then go hurtling down the most dangerous hill in town.

Actually, I remember screwing roller skate wheels to the bottom of a board as well. Those old-school steel things, with the slider center-rail with the screw to change the size. But I'm sure I did that after skating on an abacus. But before my first skateboard (bought from "we-b-toys" the day after 7/7/77). Which were more or less plastic glorified versions of "board with roller skate wheels" compared to boards I had in the late 80's.
