So, I was right. I knew there was a different actress(es) in the movie(s). I watched the TV show with Sally Field.

Actually, I didn't know it until today that there were a total of five actresses to play Gidget. I knew about Sandra Dee and Sally Field. I think I actually saw a tv movie that starred Karen Valentine as Gidget. And there were two others.
