Thursday 11th 14.00 in a computer build lab and the I am being told that a system whose build has not yet started will be built, Mother board BIOS updated, memory tested (64 gig) and software installed - Windows ten plus one other. After this it will be ready for a 24 hour soak test which, assuming no problems will then pass for quality assurance and then all the other peripherals will be added, boxed and shipped by 17.30 on Friday.

Bank sends me an email to say that my payment of over £1000 is not enough to meet the minimum payment of £85 for the month and I need to pay more. I ask for clarification and they add £30 to the card I have just cleared making me in credit on a credit card.

I buy a fixing kit on order to fix a mount to a monitor which is not Vesa compliant. The adapter is universal but does not fit the monitor I had in mind, decide to check the universal nature and so far out of six different monitors it works on ....zero.

Delivery that in the process of being delivered by 19.00 is still on the way at 19.54.

That is just the last few days and I seem to be in a world where time is flexible, monies have reversed in that £1000 is worth something less than £85 and others seem to be running to a different clock and some words have a different meaning to what I expected. Still I guess this experience is a good preparation for time travel

I've had days/weeks/years like that. Just hold on until the insanity stops.

Thanks for the comments, I am old enough to know that life sometimes throws up these inconsistencies but when they start to come in quick succession you start to wonder if it really is you going mad, at least I have recently.

What does not help is that I have taken the opportunity of having a new system to make more changes to my room and my set up but this has resulted in the fact I do not have the time for, or access to Poser at present. I always knew I used Poser to escape reality but I don't think I realised just how important that escape is...not until now.

Yeah, I was just complaining about something like that too...
Lately now when you make an appointment for a doctor, when they give you a reminder call the day before, they say "please arrive fifteen minutes early"...
Then please don't say it's a 10:30 appointment if I have to be there by 10:15... And probably won't get called on until 11:20... It's so damn annoying.
I made a 10:30 appointment, you guys wrote 10:30 on the card you gave so I don't forget... So... Were there some silent numbers in that equation?...
The worse part is I usually arrive early anyway, usually ten minutes ahead... And it has never, ever gotten me seen by a doctor on time...
But yeah... I get you... You would think that with all our technology things would get more efficient... But no... They just get stupider...

Unfortunately it appears this "Insanity" you speak of is the Global "NEW REALITY".
Nobody works like we used to in "the Olden Days" and everyone being in a hurry to 'Get'er Dun! there isn't enough of anything from time to quality Anything to go around any more forcing us to have less for more.......made cheap it all breaks and if you're lucky Before the warranty expires......Hell fix it? Fogetaboutit...just buy a new one....hell its all throw away anyway...Right?
On Time? Yesterday becomes tomorrow and tomorrow next week.....sometime. Get a good book empty your bladder and take a chill-pill.....yea the worlds gonna end but I'm sure it won't happen before you can be helped....did you take a number BTW?
Move to Florida and watch 'Gaitors walk across the road if you want to learn patience....."I aint gonna rush'em are you!?"

I used to feel the same then my service provider went on the blitz and I lost phone, cable tv and internet service for the whole day and night. I thought I was going to go mad but you know it all came back the next morning for breakfast and I lived through it. I have laptop I have been using for 8+ years with Poser on it and it suddenly started just shutting down . Something about a Kernal Panic with my CPU or GPU or some damn thing. It overheats and either reboots or shuts down. A royal pain in the....well....EVERYWHERE! Gotten so bad I just can't sit down and engross my old self relaxing with poser spinning dials and/or creating...anything. Seems like the darn technology just beat wanting to do so right out of me. I mss my technical pens and mechanical pencils and air brushes and my clay and leather work and cameras and............I hate the modern world and computers.

Do you ever feel that life, and sometimes people, sets you to up to fail ?

Friend, with mega tooth-ache, has an appointment booked for the Dentists on a Friday afternoon.
Thursday afternoon: 2:50, phone call from dentist's. Full on smug mode in that way only a receptionist can.

"The appointment has been moved forward from tomorrow to today. 3pm and if you miss that there's a £25 no show fee.
Plus there's several weeks wait if that appointment isn't kept.

By sheer chance you're on a bus that just happens to stop around the corner.
Look on receptionist's face when you walk in at 2:55 :)

You would think that with all our technology things would get more efficient... But no... They just get stupider...

My favourite is phone zombies met a 6.5ft tall friend. Obviously their facebook is that important, other people need to clear the way. He doesn't and it's always lovely when they walk into him, start to tell him he's a ignorant moron who should "get out of the f***king way". Then look up :)

Oh, yeah. All the time. Always feel like I'm a week late and a dollar short and can't figure out where the right line is. Or was behind the door when they were handing out smarts for dealing with whatever it is I need to do this time.

There are some people in life who seem to get a kick out of making life worse for other people, aren't there?

Well saga continues with the new computer, memory test took a long time, not kid there is 64gig of the stuff so I know that it will not happen in five minutes but I would have thought the build team would have known that as well and taken it into consideration when promising a dispatch date. So memory test does not finish before close of play on Friday so 24 hour soak test cannot start to Monday. As the system is not overclocked I agree with them when they offer to shorten it to eight hours so it can be shipped today. I does have 3 years on site warranty anyway and I guess that running it flat out for 8 hours should pick up any major problems. Good news, passed soak test, bad news it will not pass the 88 point quality check in time to ship tonight.

Still, in truth, I expected the delay when I saw still in memory test mode Friday night so the delay is no shock, just a bit peeved that I agreed to shorten the soak test but gained nothing in just the same way that I paid extra to use a processor that was in stock so avoid a delay so that I could have it delivered last Friday. You can pay an extra charge to speed up the build from five to three days which they say they have provided for free, no kid, when the build is on already on day four even ignoring the three day wait before the build started.

So none of this is a major problem and it will all work out in the end, I am just disappointed that buying a new system has not turned out to be as exciting as I thought it would be.

As to the rest, well I can certainly spend the extra money from the credit card company, oh hang on I just did, well part of it on the monitor adapter that went into the recycling bin. The major downer is I managed to break one of my wive's family heirlooms adding down-lighters to a display case I had just built. She has been very understanding about it which only makes me feel more guilty of course, can't turn back the clock or replace it so I guess I will just have to live with the guilt.

Oh well tomorrow is another day and a whole new set of problems to arise.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.
I recently just had a new computer built, I think from a different company to the one you used, I used PC Specialist, I paid for the fast build as they were saying that builds were taking up 14 days as they were busy.
Computer arrived all seemed good, then I realised that the second hard drive wasn't available - so the computer had to go back - apparently the second HD had slipped in transit, they did refund me the fast build charge and managed to return it within a week, unfortunately when I got it back it still didn't recognise the second hard drive; by this time I'm going nuts I had spent quite a lot (at least for me)and seemed to be stuck with either returning it again getting a refund which would take at least 14 days or sticking with it as it was. I rang the company several times and finally I got a guy who had an idea once he realised which case I had bought, the hard drive needed to be gently pushed towards the motherboard it was a really simply thing to do and fixed the problem.
So I know how you feel but personally I can't praise the people who dealt with me enough and I am now the owner of a fast and pretty quiet computer, my old computer was dying I've had 2 power supplies go in the last few months one of the fans makes a terrible rattling noise and it wouldn't render for more that 5-10 minutes without freezing the whole computer up.
For me it all ended well and I hope it does for you too and its so nice when you finally have a computer you are not constantly fighting.

Sorry to hear of your troubles but glad it was sorted in the end.

The reason I used the company I did is that I have seen computers built by them before and they are generally good. The other plus is that the first year support in on site, in fact I have paid more to extend that over the second and third year of the warranty. They also have a real time tracking of your build and up load photos and the ones I have seen of my system suggest the build is up to their usual standard. Other pluses was that I was able to customise the base system and they only use branded off the shelf components from the likes of Gigabyte, Crucial, Samsung, Asus, Corsair and so on. They also pack the inside with anti-static bubble wrap in an attempt to stop components moving, the outside is covered with large notices reminding you to remover said bubble wrap before attempting to power up the system.

Oh and the good news is they put in the extra effort and got it though the quality check in time so ship so it should be with me tomorrow. Now all I have to do is load install and activate the programs, bad enough in Windows 7 but this is Windows 10 which I have very little experience of, and most of that was bad.

I hope all is well and to be fair most of my problems with them have bad communications and broken promises which are not necessarily reflected in their technical skills.

Thank you both of you. The courier they have used is one of the better ones and I should be given a one hour time slot later this morning. I know from the tracking app that the parcels are in my local town. Meanwhile I need to move my existing PC to another position in my room as I am going to keep it for network rendering and general stuff. I have been using two monitors for years now but I have decided to put them on support arms to free up room on my real desktop so I have that to set up once the existing system is moved. Then my first real worry is activating Poser (the system has been though a few hours soak test so, in theory it should work) I deactivated the version I had running on my laptop a week ago so I should have an activation to be used. Once that is done I need to get the graphics pad and Space Navigator working then I can breathe a sigh of relief and install the other programs as I need them. Bit of a daunting prospect if I am honest but I am mildly confident I will get there.
