Maybe read why Ero made the rig the way he did before coming to a conclusion.
Project Evolution ONE now available here
Thank you for the link, I don't follow the forums at Renderosity these days so I would have missed that otherwise. There was a time that I did so I was aware of the early development of PE and, if my memory serves me correctly, the early reason for the development of the figure was a specific needs that Erogenesis had that were not being met by the figures already in existence. Only as interest grew in the project did it evolve into something to be marketed to everyone.
The figure, while clearly having evolved over time, clearly sticks to this original concept and is to be welcomed. It is clearly different to other figures but that was the aim and there are two aspects that are very appealing to users, firstly it works in Poser (without having to jump through hoops) and secondly it is great value for money given everything that is included in the base package. Add on the fact that it provides certain features (now add ons) that some 3D artists feel is missing from other figures and it deserves to succeed. There also seems to be the aim, supported by the development time already spent, to improve the figure over time rather than abandon it after a year or so for the 'New Project Three'. For these reasons alone Erogenesis's efforts should be applauded. Sadly, for many, these differences will not overcome the major problem with any new figure and that is the lack of content. There are some outfits already available but on the whole they are dynamic and I suspect the majority of users do not use dynamic clothing and as I have only started using it in the last few years I can understand why. While I have come to learn that dynamic is generally better than conforming it is not a panacea and some content is not easy to develop for dynamic, sci-fi suits with hard panels or jet packs and the like spring to mind. That is not to say they won't work in the cloth room but you really have to go deep into the room to get them to work.
I really do welcome Project Evolution One to the market and wish it every success but I am afraid that I will be one of those hanging on to my credit card for the moment waiting to see where the project goes. Content is not really an issue for me as I am now well into dynamic but I would like to see some more skin textures before I went forward. Having said that, if I was not retired, and thus on a limited budget I would already have purchased PE1 if only to try and reward someone who has put so much work in on something Poser can use from the box.
That is my personal view, I was going to say I hope it is seen as being fair to both sides but thinking on that, there shouldn't be any sides, some will welcome the figure with open arms others will watch with interest while others will ignore. So basically, this is no different than any other figure, good or bad. If you are Poser user however, it must surely be something to shout about, even if the followers are few anything that keeps Poser alive and helps SM both with interest and sales at CP that has to be a big step in the right direction, even generating a discussion is a plus.
