A writers' and artists' (and modelers') guide to archery and its equipment
I hope this may be of some use to artists and modelers, as well as writers, who do not have the opportunity to directly examine real bows and arrows and see them used in real life, and who do not know how to distinguish between the examples in various media that have been recreated correctly and those that are so inaccurate as to be cringeworthy.
Multiple online searches have turned up a shortage of well-modeled arrows in particular, with a depressing number that have four fletchings or two instead of three for European archery, and very few with the correct orientation of fletchings and nock. A large number of art pieces seem to show bows with strings made of elastic, and there are many 3D models with the same (wrong) characteristic.
Thank you to anyone who did the research and got things right. To help anyone who has no idea what I am talking about but would like to know, I made this tutorial.
