@Myth: You did a very nice job of catching a blink-and-it's-gone effect. :)

The Normal for us but many haven't seen it atmospheric situation is a Virga. What is virga? | EarthSky.org It's so common here that I hadn't known it had it's own name until my mother sent a text saying she had seen a pink one and I had to use google to find out what she was talking about. LOL

The oddest thing happened last week when I was driving home. I kept getting splatters of rain on my windshield, but ... there were so few clouds in the sky, and none of them looked like rain clouds. You'd think that at SOME point, I'd have seen a rain bearing cloud!

Unless it was a personal rain cloud that never moved from over my car.

Odd all right.
I've seen it happen here a few times but it's pretty rare. Sometimes it turns out to be a warning that the clouds will actually gather and dump their water in a downpour.

Sometimes at sea (or really open plains) you can see a rain cloud in the distance with its veil of rain hanging beneath it and on some occasions, you can notice the misty curtain trailing on the prevailing breeze, way away from the cloud above... And I guess raining down on some poor person minding their own business, wondering what the heck is going on.
I'd imagine if there are trees, hills, building and such things that serve to obstruct a direct view of the offending cloud, it can be quite annoying.
I usually just pull over a shake my fist and curse at the sky until it stops...
I don't recommend that course of action as others may not feel comfortable with the social ramifications of such behavior and its effect how others behave around you afterwards.
On the plus side you are less likely to have someone ask you to sign a petition or buy Girl Scout cookies from them.

I think the strangest thing I'd ever seen was back when I was in my early teens. I was playing on the street in front of the building we lived in with some friends, and it was raining across the street, but the sun was shining on our side of the street.

Funny thing is, the rain was moving along the street, and not across the street, so our side of the street never got wet.

A few weeks ago, we had a red sky in the evening. For some reason, I was getting the rhyme mixed up and couldn't remember whether a red sky at night meant an incoming storm. So, Google to the rescue.

The explanation from the Library of Congress is:
Red sky at night, sailors delight.

Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.
Ohhhh, looks like I mixed them up as well.

Petition? Mphh. I don't know. Maybe. But I can tell you those Girl Scouts are absolutely FEARLESS!
