The Anchorage, Part 3

Gloriously sunny but cool day here. Today I'm buying some fuel for my heater as I see it's forecast to drop down to 9C/48F overnight this week and that is just too nippy to be sitting up in. And I need to change to warm sheets as well. Winter is coming.

Winter is coming. Game of Thrones! Game of Thrones!

Which curiously will be premiering in the summer this year. I can't wait!

OMGosh. I just came home from a 90 minute massage. Best of all ... coming home meant taking an elevator down 5 floors :p

I am in heaven. I had no idea I had sooo much tension in my body. Everywhere. Not just the small of my back which has been in agony for months.

It still hurts, but everywhere else feels so relaxed.

I'm so jealous Satira. I had a massage once years ago, and yes it was soooo relaxing.

Gloriously sunny but cool day here too Lorraine and the heater is on, and we're moving into Summer! It's a funny old sort of world, isn't it? :sun:

I thought you might like to see this video from NASA showing New Zealands recent extreme rainfall,

Now you know where its coming from! It's all those blooming American satellites stirring things up! :oopsie:

Gah the fun of reinstalling windows
first the laptop (new) then I'll look at doing this desktop (older) but I think I'll leave the art desktop alone as it is running ok just really lacking some fire power as I found out last night trying to set up the render that is now tying it up for the rest of the day
Need to drag out the old box and hook up some screens to see what will run on it so I can still be doing some thing while renders are running

Isn't it fun! Not. Reinstalled W7 on a friend's laptop last week. That's a few hours I will never have back. They are considering installing W7 on their new Win10 laptop too. When you are the go to person for all your tech deficient pals...

Yep, install went ok. Rest of day spent trying to find drivers, including the ones needed to make the net work

It's officially winter aboard the boat. I have the fire ticking over, warm sheets on the bed and shall be warm as tonight. Went to put the fuel in the tank and found it three quarters full from last year...WIN!!

Why not go the Windows 10 route? So far I haven't noticed any conflicts. Does Win 7 work better for rendering>
I just pulled win 10 off the new laptop, that was the reason for the reinstall.
Its a pile of BS taking up more space on the laptop than needs to be for what I want/need it to do

My friends are not sure yet whether they want to keep the W10 installation, Rob. She is very unkeen on it, he not so much. We'll see.

Depends on how much you value your privacy Lorraine. Give Win10 a few weeks and Microsoft will know as much about you as you do and the only way to stop them is to go in and turn off all those little Spybots manually! There's a tech guy around here who spends half his working week doing just that for the less-savvy people who request it! Cie la vie!

Anyone who uses any social networking site has already given up their private details to the world. Especially, if they are on Facebook. To do almost anything on the internet involves giving up too much personal details. Consequently, the privacy issues don't bother me near as much as upgrade issues.

That said, I'm not eager to switch to Windows 10, but have no choice at work. The developers get to be the first to "benefit" from Windows 10 laptops. Which makes no sense to me. The people who need to be the MOST productive and are most affected by new OS problems are switched first? And yeah. We're encountering all kinds of issues ... especially with telecommuting. The mobile phone client and the headsets have issues with 10. Fortunately, I don't use a headset, so hopefully, I won't be as impacted as others.

So far, the three developers who have been switched to windows 10 laptops have been down almost a week as missing software has to be installed.

There is the difference of choice Satira. Using social networking or not is a choice by the individual as to whether or not you wish to share private information on the 'net. Having that choice taken away from you without your knowledge is a whole other ballgame. While this is not the place to discuss it, 'consent through ignorance' is and should be abhorred in any society which upholds freedom of speech as one of it's most valued tenets. That hold equally true for employers who may not with to have company-sensitive information being made available without their knowledge. I would strongly advise anyone thinking of upgrading should read the more-informed tech reports before taking the plunge and at least find out how to switch those little Spybots off!. Sorry for the rant and apologies to Lorraine. :speechless:
