Damn Richard, I'm REALLY trying to not gain any weight!!

Notice I didn't say trying to "lose" weight. That's a lost cause if there ever was one.

Now, I'm a purist, I like cream with my pie...thick runny cream that you pour over till there's a lake then pour over again when it's soaked in. And I like my pie with flaky pastry, not short. My favourite pie is homemade apple with no spices. Just Granny Smith apples and sugar in flaky pastry with cream. Yum.

Now I'm feeling hungry...I'm not fussed whether the cream is runny or thick (Mind you, King Island Triple Cream is absolutely delicious) but you have to have the cream. Even better with homemade custard as well as the cream....

Now see I like custard on steam puddings but not pie. Hot custard with cream and a lump of icecream is pretty yummy but. Now I'm hungry too!

My all time fav is sugar free apple pie with pure vanilla ice cream. I'm talking about the home made variety. Sugar free apple pies are the best, using Golden Delicious apples so you get natural sweetness and stay away from white processed sugar (which is bleached using some process that's not good for you in the long run, nasty). I use coconut sugar to make the ice cream! Safe for diabetics!

Speaking of sugar free, there's a bakery a few doors down from my gym that does their baking on premises, and they have sugar free apple turnovers, so I always bring 1/2 a dozen with me when I visit a friend who's husband, mother (and mother-in-law) are all diabetics. They are huge, and none of us ever eats more than 1/2 a turnover at a time, so it's like getting a dozen of regular sized turnovers.

I can honestly say, they are absolutely fantastic, and you'd never know they were sugar free if I hadn't told you they were. I also think they have a couple/three other sugar free flavored turnovers, but we all like the apples best. ;)

Truly. If sugar free is done right you don't miss it. I make an essentially sugar free shake every morning. I feel like I'm drinking desert it's so good. Coconut is the base, which is naturally sweet as well as a banana. It's quite decadent!

I'm not a fan of coconut, but I love bananas, so yeah that would be sweet.

I use organic TradeAid sugar from South America, Wolffie, it's more expensive than white sugar but the peeps who grow it are getting more money for their crop so I don't mind one bit. As you can see, it's not bleached. I don't like using golden delicious apples because they make a pie too sweet for me. I like mine with a little edge to it :)

I didn't used to like coconut because I always remembered it on overly sweet cakes, candies and cookies until I tried coconut cream. OMG. I was like orgasmic. After that I started researching it and found there were ALLOT of health benefits to it. Even good for the immune system. So I'm fan now....

Nice Lorraine. I like sugar in the raw when there is nothing else but for the most part I use the alternative sweeteners like coconut, monk fruit and a few others.
