I'm not sure about this, as you say he was mostly on radio, but he reminds me of an older David Caruso from CSI: Miami, and other police TV shows.

I remember the "character", but not who plays him.

His real name is Murray Langston, he's 78 years old now. But I remember him best from The Gong Show as The Unknown Comic.

I actually had a "Rat Patrol" diorama with 2 Jeeps and a Tank and landscape stuff. In mint condition (in the box) per on line check anywhere from $100 to $400 US apparently.
