Nope. Wasn't a pop fan. But...that tune was not new and she was not the original singer. The big hit was in the 1960's, and that's the one I remember. Sung by Merrilee Rush in 1968. I didn't know who it was, but I remember the tune. Over the years several other versions were recorded by different artists. The version by Juice Newton was released in 1981, 13 years after the one I remember.

Remember this????? I've never gotten a shoe shine, but I knew where to get one if I needed to. Our local bus station had shiners there, or several clothing shops had them inside. Honestly, never saw one on the street... except for one time in the 80s when I went to New York.

Yes, here in NYC there were quite a few out on the street.
