I haven't shopped at a Farmer's Market Stand in many years. I used to when I would stop while driving home from my summer weekends in the Hamptons out on Long Island. Lots of farms around there, and they would always set up stand along some of the roads folks traveled often. I used to get the best ever ears of corn that way.

Ah, cow manure! Now that is the best fertiliser. My dad used to shovel the old muck from round the edges of the cowshed and put it in his garden. He didn't quite get tomatoes like watermelons but his beefsteak would be easily 6 inches across. One would be a meal and the flavour!! OMG, soooooo good!

Miss B, we have a farmer's market each Thursday arvo in Paihia: veges, fruit, cheese, wine, limoncello, sourdough bread, fresh fruit juices, preserves, fish, free range eggs and meat.

I look after a Bichon regularly. Every time I go there I take her food away from her so she knows who is alpha. Her mum and dad have spoilt her rotten and she is very badly behaved but she gives me no lip at all.

Wich is why we taught - and still teach - our dog that her food is first and foremost 'our food'.

When we got Shasta (the pup in my avatar whom we had from the time he was about 7 weeks old till he died at about 9 yrs), we taught him the same thing about us being able to take ANYTHING from his mouth (well, getting him to drop tennis balls was a problem til we started holding up a piece of food so he'd drop the ball to get the food :)).

We started by bringing his food bowl up above his head. His little fuzzy rear hit the ground as he tilted off balance to look a it and we'd say "sit" as he did, then put the bowl down and say "ok" as he stood up and started to eat. After a while, we didn't say ok and when he started to eat we said "no" and made him sit again, til we said "ok". We routinely took things out of his mouth to make sure he understood that we were the alpha dogs.

Dangerous to do with unknown dogs, though. Glad your daughter's better, Traci!

She's a dachshund and takes everything she finds in her mouth, every bit of waste she finds interesting. I had to take all sorts of stuff out of her throat allready since the command "let go" works only when I put new batteries in her ears.
Dachshunds have a very selective hearing. Like "come here" somehow translates into "run away" but "cookie" she understands perfectly.

tee hee, it's not just Noedles and not just Dachshunds, DOGS :p.

Shasta understood EVERYTHING we said, just chose not to respond. We'd often say "Shasta, come!" and he'd just look at us. "NOW!" THEN he'd come. "Shasta, sit". Nada. "NOW!", THEN he'd sit.

Ornery. Adorable but ornery ;)

You know something interesting (to me) just happened. A thread about a much loved Poser centric website being gobbled up by a competing company has just gone from upset and uncertainty to fruit and pet stories (not belittling Glitterati's daughter's injury at all). Other places would have seen this subject go from bad to worse in record time, but not here. Who are you people and what planet are you form? :)

Oh, no. Something strange is happening to me. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. I don't know if I can stand the civility much longer.

Thanks, guys, for making me feel welcome. :)

LOL, you're welcome!! Thanks for being here!!

Anyone who DOES want to discuss the original topic - don't take all the roaming to mean you can't do that ;)

As noted, I'll split topics off if we see them getting way way off topic and there needs to be some continuity in them. The postwork thread mentioned is a great example!

That's because we consume honey instead of kool-aid.

LOL!!!!

I would also like to mention, I'm usually a forum lurker as I've never had much success in joining in at other sites. As anyone can see I'm quite active here, the Hive just feels like home. (how's that for warm and fuzzies :D)

Aww, that's so cool to hear!!

Well, to be honest, I actually ate some at Christmas. Occasionally, I will suffer the intense reactions for food I used to love.
